I’m just overthinking again. Roll with it, don’t act weird Zy.

“I know what it’s like to deal with those kinds of scum roaming the city,” I reply. Glancing out the window, I point to the moon, pearlescent white against the white whisperings of clouds . “Look how pretty the moon looks tonight. Almost as gorgeous as you.”

“Smooth,” chuckles Kyra. “But you’re right, it is pretty.”

A sudden wave of exhaustion overcomes my body, causing me to yawn loudly as I stretch my arms out.

“Getting tired?” asks Kyra.

“A little bit.”

“I thought someone said they could go for another round of sex,” she laughs.

“Hmm, well I suppose after three straight weeks of fucking almost every night, one would get a little worn out. Perhaps I overestimated myself.”

Smiling, Kyra squeezes my chest before laying her head down on it.

“Well I’m tired too. Let’s get some sleep.”

“Pull the blanket up a little further, keep yourself warm. In the morning, I’ll make some breakfast for us.”

As I close my eyes, I let out a sigh of exhaustion. I try to refocus my mind on all the good things that have been happening in my life over the past three weeks. After spending so much time hanging out with Kyra and getting to know her, I become excited thinking about what lies in our future.

I’ve had so much fun having amazing sex with her but I want to take things further. She fascinates me so much, and it endeared me that someone else took such an interest in me. I’m already imagining her moving in with me, at the same time trying to figure out how to bring it up again without being weird about it.

Thanks to Kyra, I finally have someone I can call a friend in this city. Not that I ever needed the company of others, I’d always been someone who valued their solitude, but I couldn’t deny how good it felt to have someone else to call your own.

There’s nothing but happiness floating in my mind as I slowly drift into a deep slumber. I already hear Kyra’s breaths deeper. Not wanting to miss a second with her, I silently mutter a prayer that I’ll see her in my dreams.

Something scratches against my leg, grating enough to cause me to wake up. As I slowly regain consciousness, there comes a blur of motion to my right. My eyes finally open, pointed right at the window. The sky has brightened ever so slightly, the darkest of blue tones thrown over it, signaling an impending sunrise.

The sound of something dropping on the floor startles me. Flipping over in the sheets, the first thing I notice is the absence of Kyra, my arms holding nothing but a handful of pillows. Suddenly, her body rises up.

In her hands is the mug that had been sitting on her side of the bed. She places it on the bedside drawer before her eyes glance over to me, suddenly widening in surprise.

“Zy! You’re awake.”

“Kyra?” I groan with a raspy voice while rubbing my eyes. “What’s going on? Why are you up so early?”

“I… I…”

My vision clears up enough for me to see she’s almost fully dressed. All that’s missing is her trousers. Confused, I recoil and snap my gaze back up at her.

“Why are you getting dressed?”

“Zy, I’m sorry,” she says remorsefully. “But I’ve got to get out of here.”

“Why? Did I do something wrong?” I ask.

“No, it’s just…” she mutters before her voice trails off.

“Kyra, I don’t understand. Please stay here with me, we can talk about whatever’s going on.”

“No,” she suddenly snaps, her voice stern. “That’s not what this is.”

Her immediate shift in tone and demeanor brews within me a sense of anxiety, forming a pit in my stomach as I take a deep breath and straight myself up.
