“Sorry to disturb you.” He smiled gently and held his hands up in a nonthreatening manner. “Just wanted to see if there was anything you needed?”

I returned his smile with a slight grin and shook my head. “Thank you.”

“No thanks needed.” He nodded and started to step away before he sucked in a deep breath and stood in place. “I know this must be jarring, being back around Antonio after all these years. Just know that he does mean well. So does Miko. Well, most of the time, he does.”

My gaze dropped as I licked my lips. “I just need some time.” I let out a harsh exhale as emotions swirled through me. “It’s very overwhelming. Antonio popping back into my life, and Miko surrounding me with his intoxicating presence makes me feel out of control. Like the car is flying at ninety miles an hour, and the brake lines are cut.”

Why did I just word-vomit everything I was feeling? This was ridiculous. I didn’t know this man–this alpha.

“Sorry, ignore everything I just said.” I bit my bottom lip and scurried out of the room.

Or, I tried to.

Cormac grasped my wrist gently and held me still.

“You don’t have to pretend with me. Be yourself. Be whatever you want to be. I know you don’t know me yet, but I hope you’ll learn to trust me and allow me to help you. To catch you if you fall.”

CORMAC

Silence hung between us as Alexis gazed at me with her heart in her eyes. They darkened with her emotions, every thought reflected in those deep pools. When I first met Antonio when I was seventeen, he was under his uncle’s thumb. Over the years, our friendship had grown, as had his power within the organization.

It had been his idea to ally with the Omega Syndicate to enhance our cash flows.

Eventually, he told me about his plan to recover his lost omega.

His Angel, he’d called her.

Now I knew why the nickname was perfect for her.

The dim lighting reflected off her dark hair, casting a golden glow around her head like a halo. With her bright, expressive eyes, she was a vision.

No wonder Miko was so besotted with her too.

I released her wrist and lifted my hand to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. “Antonio knows you aren’t the girl he left ten years ago. Gods know he isn’t the same man. None of us are. We’ve gone through trials and tribulations, making us stronger.”

She nodded, shifting her weight from foot to foot but not making any moves to leave. “I don’t know what to do.”

Her confession was little more than a whisper wrenched from her soul.

I snaked an arm around her waist and pulled her against my body. She fit perfectly against me, despite my size. I tucked my chin on her head as I ran a hand up and down her back.

Her cherry blossom scent filtered through my brain, and I fought back my instincts that demanded I throw her over my shoulder and take her to bed. She was ours. She belonged with us and in our beds.

“You don’t have to do anything right now, little omega. Let us take care of you and keep you safe. Help us find who is trying to sabotage our company.”

A deep rumbling rattled my chest, and I realized with astonishment that I was purring.

I’d never purred for anyone.

Not that I’d ever been around an omega, much less a distressed one.

It was a puzzling feeling.

Yet, it somehow felt right. Alexis in my arms, relaxing in my embrace and from my purr. I now knew that she was fated to be our mate. The moment her scent reached my senses, I was captivated by her.

“Tell me about you.” Her small hand splayed over my chest, and I savored her touch. Although, I wished it was on my bare skin.
