“Not much to tell, baby girl.” I kissed the top of her head as I gently began to sway in time with my rhythmic purring. “I was a street kid—a low-level member of the Cavalori gangs. Because of my size, they trained me to be a bodyguard. When I was seventeen, they assigned me to Antonio. We became friends. That’s pretty much it.”

That wasn’t it. There was a lot I’d done in my youth that I wasn’t proud of. Drugs. Sex. Violence. You name it, and I’d probably done it. But that was life on the streets. You did what you had to do to survive.

“I’ve lived in my own little world for so long. I don’t know what has changed about me.” She sounded so forlorn it made a pang shoot through my heart.

“From what Miko has told us, you’re an incredible hacker, one of the best, which is a compliment of the highest order where Miko is concerned.” I chuckled slightly. “He doesn’t do compliments or praise.”

A snort escaped her. “I’ve kinda gathered that. He’s kind of a dick.”

“I heard that, Princess,” Miko’s smooth accent echoed through the hallway before he rounded the corner to the living room. A smile spread over his lips, which none of us were used to seeing from our dark friend.

“Can’t I just get a moment of peace?” She groaned and took several steps away from me.

I released her, allowing her a moment of space so she could retreat into herself.

I was all too acutely aware of the need for some breathing room.

So, despite my instincts screaming at me once again to take her to bed, I pushed them away and let her have the freedom she needed.

I shot Miko a narrowed-eye glance, silencing him before he could open his big mouth and fill the room with his snark.

He bowed low and swept his arm toward the room Antonio had put Alexis in. Thankfully, without any smart-ass comments.

Before Alexis rounded the corner, I stopped her for a moment. “If you need anything, just let me know. Antonio programmed our numbers in your phone.”

“Of course he did,” she muttered under her breath. “Overbearing asshole. Fucking mafia capo always having to be in complete control.”

“Oh, you have no idea, princess.” Miko grinned maniacally, the double entendre dripping from his simple statement.

“Yeah, I remember that too,” she snapped back as she shook her head. “Now if you’ll excuse me; I'd like to rest before dinner.”

A smile spread over my face at how she handled Miko and his mouth.

She was feisty and snarky—the perfect addition to our group.

The door to her room slammed, and I shook my head at Miko. “You’re going to drive her right out the door.”

Miko snorted. “She loves it. We could both smell her intense arousal. Verbal sparring is like foreplay to her. Fuck, she makes me so hard with her sass. Can’t wait to fuck it right out of her, then wind her back up again the next day.”

“You’re insane.” I rolled my eyes and retreated into my room, my thoughts still on the lovely omega fighting her attraction to us.

ALEXIS

The door rattling on its hinges made a smug sense of satisfaction roll through me.

I didn't want to like Cormac. I didn't want to feel comfortable in his arms. And I certainly didn't want to be attracted to him.

But here I was, slapping my palm to my forehead in frustration because I was slipping.

They didn't realize the message I had on my phone from the so-called “Omega Syndicate.” They were operating under a different agenda than Antonio his merry men thought.

The message made it crystal clear.
