Page 38 of Arming Alexis

My uncle beat the ruthlessness into me. He couldn't quite get me to break the vow I made to my mother never to harm an innocent.

Despite years of trying.

I pressed the button on my visor, opening the hidden garage door to pull in and park next to the twins. Their blacked-out Escalade was already in place, and I knew they'd been able to grab Annaleise and Ross just like I'd asked them to.

My eyes fluttered shut for a fraction of a second as I banished the memories of my uncle and his torture methods. I would not be him. I would never be as ruthless or bloodthirsty.

Never harm an innocent woman.

But you hurt Alexis all those years ago...

No. I left to protect her. If Massimo had known about Alexis and sensed any attachment to an omega, he would have used it against me. I knew Alexis would be dead now if I hadn't left her ten years ago.

Shaking my head, I exited the vehicle and made my way inside. The home was utilitarian. Everything had a purpose, from the dark countertops and sparse decor, if you could even call it decor.

It had been built with purpose.

What mattered when we came here was in the basement.

The shrill sound of Annaleise's voice pierced my eardrums as I descended the stairs. The overwhelming scent of bleach assaulted my nostrils, but it was better than the coppery tang of blood. The place was always cleaned when our business was through.

Today I hungered for blood to coat the walls and the floor.

I would have my revenge.

"What else did you tell them?" Luca's sharp, accented voice pierced the air, and a resounding slap followed his words.

Just as Ross came into view, I saw the pathetic piece of shit start to beg. "Please, Luca. You have to understand. They were going to kill me."

Roberto snorted out a laugh. "Then you die. Better death than betraying the family."

"Oh, will you both shut up." Annaleise strained against the chains holding her to the metal chair, arms secured in front of her by metal cuffs.

The method meant to leave her arms and hands where we could wound her. I wouldn't mind plucking off those sharp red fingernails. It would be most pleasant to have her screams echoing in my ears.

"Ross, you know the punishment for betraying the family." I strode in front of him, the picture of calm on the outside, despite the rage boiling just beneath the surface. "Now the question remains whether your death will be long, slow, or swift. That depends entirely on you and how much you talk. I would suggest talking. I know you're more than aware of our skills with instruments of torture."

The crying intensified, and the scent of urine filled the air, overriding the bleach. Oh, fuck it all. I knew Ross was a pathetic piece of shit, but pissing himself? Really?

My gaze met Luca's, then Roberto's. They shook their heads and laughed.

"If you say a word, Ross, I'll gut you."

My eyebrows rose as I whirled to face Annaleise. Was she kidding? "How do you suppose you're going to do that? It seems to me, you're in your own predicament."

The bitch scoffed and tossed her head back, sweeping her hair over her shoulder in a practiced move designed to amplify her scent.

But my alpha instincts weren’t having any of her bullshit. Alexis’ scent still lingered in my brain, and Annaleise was the equivalent of garbage. It made me want to gag.

As I growled, she realized her plan had failed. “I had hoped you would come to see reason, but you’re too omega pussy-whipped to see what’s right in front of your face. I tried to give you a chance.”

“What the fuck are you talking about, you psycho bitch?”

“You’ll see.” A wicked smile spread over her face. “My time here is coming to an end.”

Roberto and Luca shot me confused looks a moment before an explosion rocked the entire foundation around us.

It knocked me off my feet, and Annaleise began to cackle madly. “So predictable. Charging off to ‘take care of me.' Did you even think, alpha?"
