They headed out and continued their delving into homes that had no one to love them. Yet.

Geero reached up and stroked a smudge off her cheek. They were at the coffee shop, and his aunt was sitting two tables over, calling the sellers.

“I can’t believe you got into the crawlspace in that dress.”

She shrugged. “It had to be done. You are too big to fit.”

He smiled slowly and kissed her cheek.

“That was not a come-on.”

He chuckled. “I know, but any excuse to kiss your smudged cheek.”

She sighed. “Incorrigible.”

“Yes. Thank you for humouring me.”

“You have surprising manners for an alpha.”

He chuckled. “Nearly my entire family is human. Almost no actives in the bunch.”

“Oh. Wow. That’s... I can’t even imagine that.”

“To be surrounded by humans?”

“To have family I could count as a plural. I was alone until Amadine. The ladies I escaped with have become another type of family.”

He frowned. “What was that like?”

She smiled as his aunt approached them. “It is a topic for another day.” She looked at Enkari. “Well?”

The woman sat, and Yalida brought over a cup of tea for her.

Enkari pulled the files out and set them side by side. She patted the file with the condemned building. “This one is yours. I got you ten thousand below asking.”

Ondine grinned. “Excellent.”

“Now, as for the other. The knowledge that more Uraddans are moving in made them fight. They are unhappy with the trend.”

Ondine tapped her lips. “Tell them that Titan will be watching over the neighbourhood. They don’t need to worry about dropping property values.”

“You have proof of this? How do you know him?”

Ondine opened her com and displayed her Titan identification and her own.

Enkari stared. “Oh, that is not at all what I thought.”

Ondine smiled. “No one ever thinks that. The pay is good.”

“Oh. Right. Okay. I will be back in a moment. A stellar class defender might make the difference.”

Ondine chuckled as the woman moved back to the other table. “Huh, I went from being Uraddan to having class. Fun.”

He snorted and pulled her chair next to his. He wrapped his arm around her and rubbed her bicep and shoulder as she cuddled against him. “The waiting is the worst part.”

“I thought paying the fees was the worst part.” She sighed.

He squeezed her, and Enkari was waving her free hand in the air.
