“Apparently, your kitchen is sad, and mine is better, so you are getting an upgrade so I can process my day. I am so fucking moody it isn’t funny.” She scowled.

Yalida paused. “You went to the doctor today?”

“I did.”

“And you worked on your missing bits?”

Ondine was wary. “Yes.”

“Including your hormone-generating ones?”

“What? Ohhhh.” She stared at her friend. “Yeah, that explains why I am having a craving for sad movies and ice cream.”

“Oh, and those little chips you like that are hot enough to burn?” Yalida grinned.

“Oh, yeah, those too. And those freeze-dried chocolate things. Dang. I am going to fix your kitchen before I start chewing on my arm.”

“Enjoy PMS again. Nice to see you, Geero.”

Ondine hauled him to the kitchen, and then she let his hand go. She looked at him and took in his dress shirt, nice slacks, and shiny shoes. “Oh, dear. What were you doing that you had to charge over here dressed nice?”

He smiled. “I had lunch with my mom. I told her about you and the baby. She nearly passed out. She’s eager to meet you though.”

“Oh. Right. You have family.”

“Yes. Parents who are eager to become grandparents.”

“Oh, right. That is unexpected, but if they are happy about it, that’s a good thing. I hope they like Amadine.”

“I am sure they will.”

She wasn’t sure of that. Amadine could be a lot.

Ondine began to work on the appliances, and they chatted. She learned about his family and their history while she reshaped things and improved the layout by simply convincing the matter to change places.

He leaned on the wall, sipping a juice box as she worked. When she finally finished and washed her hands, he chuckled. “I didn’t want to say this before, but you smell like you are in heat.”

She looked at him. “That isn’t funny.”

He walked over to her and hugged her. “I agree. It isn’t funny at all.”

She breathed him in, and her body shivered and twitched. “This sucks. What is going on?”

“You are my type, and you like me. Your body is just trying to let you know in the only way it has.”

“I wish it would just send you a note.” She thudded her head against his chest.

He stroked her back and kissed her temple. They stood together for what felt like an hour before the dinner was announced with shrieking and laughter. Time to eat.

Chapter Eleven

Ondine ate and complimented the chefs that had prepared the food. Yalida smiled. “First thing we learn is how to cook with local ingredients. The kids are just showing off.”

“Are they? What for?”

Clavia smiled. “The new neighbours. They are trying to make sure you know that the property values won’t drop.”

Ondine laughed. “I am worried you might think that we were going to bring values down.”
