“I think you’re going to cave.” And then she spins around and sways those damn hips as my gaze drops right to her ass.

Begrudgingly, I follow her, knowing that I have a role to play and that it hasn’t been so bad with Molly being here.

A few people have come up to ask who she is, and I gave her the name Marissa just to protect her identity. The last thing this woman needs right now is a bunch of photography rats on her doorstep tomorrow morning, peppering her with questions that are no one’s business.

Molly guides herself to the dance floor, fully aware that I’ll follow, and we find an empty space.

She twirls around, the most beautiful woman in the room, and waits for me to take my place.

It doesn’t take long.

My arm immediately wraps around her waist as I pull her flush into my chest. With my free hand, I lace my thick fingers into her small ones and begin to sway back and forth unceremoniously.

I don’t know what song is playing, and I don’t care.

All I know is that she feels perfect in my arms and I’m fully taking advantage of these moments where I can.

She’s supposed to be my girlfriend, and I haven’t shown her the attention that she would deserve if she was.

As I splay my fingers right above her ass, Molly perks a brow at me.

“What?” I solicit, almost innocently. But clearly, we’re both smart enough to see through my bullshit.

“You know what,” she retorts back with a grin. “It’s about time you do something so that everything with a dick around here stops staring at me like I’m their next one-night stand.”

My brows pinch. “What?”

Was I that fucking much inside my head about not wanting to be here that I was stupid enough not to notice?

More than likely.

Actually yeah, dumbass.

I obviously saw Molly in the dress and wanted nothing more than to help her into something else, but the moment I saw Olivia my mood took a shit.

Now, I don’t even know where she is, because I’ve taken my energy out of the situation and put it where it belongs.

“Relax,” Molly replies softly. “Every time I leaned into you was to ward off unneeded attention.”

And she did a lot of that.

“I apologize,” I emit through a tight jaw. “I’m really not in the mood to be here right now.”

“You’re doing alright,” she offers up, but I think it’s to make me not feel so bad that I’m being an awful fake-as-fuck boyfriend. “You can just tell that you don’t want to be here.”

“I don’t.”

“But you came here for your daughters which is commendable and that shows.”

“Does it?” I study the room and notice the smiles. How everyone seems so happy for Olivia and her new beau that they don’t know all the hell she put me through.

And now she gets to live happily ever after while I’m emotionally withdrawn from it.

From any female, really.

“That’s how it looks to me,” Molly replies. “And I don’t know you that well.”

“Yet, you had no problem becoming my date.” I slice my attention back to her to see her staring up at me.
