Emotionally.

Good thing we don’t have a close bond or anything because my dumbass might develop a crush or something.

You mean like you did.

I bat away that idea because it didn’t take long for that to dissolve into nothing. Especially when he doesn’t look a bit interested in me anymore.

It was a one-and-done scenario.

It doesn’t matter that we had sex—amazing sex, for me—he is over it.

“Do I look like someone that doesn’t make a bunch of noise?”

No.

Because I remembera lotof noise and comments the last time we were together.

Come for me, baby. I’m not going to last with how you’re looking at me like that.

I practically lose my breath at the thought as Kai’s blue eyes glance down at me. I still remember everything about that night.

How he took and owned and made me so desperate for more that I’ve never wanted a man so much in my life.

It’s honestly borderline pathetic at this point.

“I’m throwing a party here tonight,” he tells me. “It might get loud.”

I bob my head because my first thought is that I’m either going to lock myself in my room or that I’m leaving. There’s no universe where I’m going to be able to enjoy myself at any party he’s at, given the circumstances and the way we’ve been together.

“Thanks for the heads up,” I mutter, turning my attention back to my phone so that I can ask Fiona if she has plans.

Kai disappears from view then and I shift, suddenly feeling out of place in a home that’s not mine.

This is going to be a long-suffering existence in this house with him.

No doubt.

KAI

Iwatchmybestfriend, Myles—aka the asshole who hooked me up on a blind date with the floral-dressed nun—chug a bottle of tequila as our mutual acquaintances urge him on with chants and grunts.

The place is a fucking shit show of alcohol littered all over my kitchen, red Solo cups, and rock music blaring off my Bluetooth subwoofer, but I really don’t give a particular shit.

This is the most normal it’s felt in the house since Molly arrived and shook the atmosphere around here.

Myles finishes the pint, wiping his mouth off with the back of his hand as he raises the glass in silent victory.

The assholes around him cheer him on like Myles gave the speech of the century and I’m just vibing with the heavy metal music and the cold beer residing in my hand.

“Get this man a shot!” Myles points at me. His mission—to get me so fucked up that I screw one of the blondies that were invited here.

I’d argue, tell him no, but it’s just going to show up in my possession anyway. So I allow one of the guys to grab me a shot while I sit comfortably in one of the dining room chairs.

“I want to play beer pong,” Myles says before he plops down in front of me in a reclining chair. “You got it set up?”

“In the backyard as you requested.”
