FIONA: Girl, I’m serious.

ME: I’d rather not try. The attraction has worn off.

FIONA: Owww…that bad?

ME: Let’s just say, I don’t know who this man is anymore.

FIONA: God, what a waste. That man is built to climb like a tree.

ME: It’s not entirely shocking. Of course he’s an asshole.

FIONA: He wasn’t when you were his fake date.

ME: Because he knew he’d never have to see me again and he needed something from me.

ME: He couldn’t be a total dick and expect me to remain there.

FIONA: True.

FIONA: However, I do know that you could whip him into shape.

ME: You see the thing is…he’s my boss. My current paycheck. I’m just keeping a distance and hope he continues to fuck off.

FIONA: I guess that’s the safe bet until you figure out your next move.

ME: Speaking of, I got an email from some stupid blog that wants me to write pieces.

FIONA: What kind?

ME: Women issues but the odds and ends portion of the email was a turn-off.

FIONA: Ah, we know what that means.

FIONA: Moving on.

ME: Exactly. I’m not wasting my time on it right now. I’ll just ride this out and hope something juicy comes along that I can’t turn down.

FIONA: It’ll come.

“Which boyfriend are you texting now?” I literally jolt violently in my spot as Kai’s voice comes barreling into my peace and quiet.

How the man got inside the house so damn stealthily is beyond me right now but I’m instantly irritated.

“Mygod, Kai,” I chide, slamming my palm against my thrumming heart. “You scared me.”

He rounds the couch and, out of my peripheral, I see that he’s kept a safe distance from me.

“Not sure how.”

His tone is innocent but he really needs his brain examined.

“Because you didn’t make a sound.” I steer my glower in his direction because he should be ashamed of himself.

Except, he’s not.

Not ever.

The man is in a navy-blue tee that practically shreds his muscles. The black tattoos that litter his skin are a constant reminder that this man is trouble.
