That would help me cover my ass, but I can’t see it being something that wouldn’t insult Molly.

She’s the one who wrote the fucking article.

The decision really should be simple. I either cut my losses now, find a way to raise the baby with Molly while keeping my distance, or keep her.

I want to keep her.

I do.

But I’m still so pissed off about what she did. I can’t find it in me to sit down and even talk about it. I don’t know how to approach her either.

A surge of pain hits my ribs before another wave clobbers me in the cheek, sending my vision into a mixture of colors as I clench them closed.

I have seconds before Johnny moves again for the final shot, but it’s too late. I timed it completely wrong.

Because the next color I see is black.

MOLLY

IfIwasn’tpregnant,I’d be drinking.

Heavily.

Grace called me, begging me to remain calm when she told me that Kai was going to come home with a busted lip, a bruised face, and a bad attitude. I guess he was in a fight tonight—a boxing match—and got knocked out.

I guess I wouldn’t be in a good mood either.

However, he’s acting out now because of where we are in…whatever you want to call us, and it has to stop. Especially since I don’t plan on being here much longer and he’ll need to watch the girls while he finds my replacement.

My mindset hasn’t changed even though my heart has argued with it many times before.

There’s no trust here.

And I can’t live in a world where I feel as though I’m walking on eggshells. Where I feel as though I’m a prisoner in a place where I’m not welcomed with my child.

Our child.

The thudding of boots fills the foyer, increasing my heart rate and ripping through my muddled thoughts.

I don’t want to deal with him. However, I can’t ignore the fact that he’s being reckless and I need him to snap out of it. I’m going to stand up for his daughters so that he doesn’t fall apart.

Kai waltzes into the kitchen, a glower already painted on his features as my skin crawls with nerves. It’s not entirely my place to speak about his behavior, but I think I’ve already broken that rule when we kept going at it like rabbits.

Nonetheless, I can’t help but notice the dried blood caked at the corner of his lips and the dark spots along his jaw and cheek.

It appears as though he got his ass kicked and it had to have been by a giant because Kai isn’t anything less than a thick wall of muscle.

“What are you doing up?” Kai snaps, sounding all too annoyed that he had to run into me.

I steel myself against his bad mood. “Grace called.”

Kai scoffs and shakes his head, ripping the fridge open. “She needs to mind her own business and not spread mine around.”

It’s not directed at me, but it feels like a cheap shot all the same.

“You can’t be doing this, Kai,” I lightly scold. “The girls are going to see you in the morning and—” He whips around so fast that I jolt a bit.
