“I didn’t ask for your opinion on my daughters. Let alone anything else that I have going on, Molly.” His blue eyes burn toward me with animosity and it’s hard to stand here and take it. To experience all that’s changed between us and be on the other side. “But when I want to know how you feel about it, I’ll ask. Just don’t hold your breath for our baby’s sake.”

This is not how I pictured being pregnant, if at all.

By a man who hates my guts and probably wants nothing more than to take everything back.

Honestly and selfishly, I’m not sure if I can endure this. I’m unable to coerce him to stay still for two seconds so we can talk about what happened and what he uncovered, and this entire thing is a disaster.

All of it.

“Why don’t we just save ourselves the trouble,” I snap, “and I abort the child?”

Kai’s jaw sets and, if I thought the previous glower was heavy, this one holds no competition. “What did you say?”

“Actually”—I lift my shoulders dismissively because my inner petty is coming out to play and it wants nothing more than to push his buttons—“I guess I’m not asking for your opinion since we both don’t care about each other’s feelings. I’ll just do it.”

I don’t mean it.

I’ve gotten past the idea of not being a good mother—sorta—and going to a cold doctor’s office just to wipe it all away isn’t something on my to-do list.

In any case, driving Kai up a wall sounds like a ball, as this is the first time we’ve been in the same room together for two minutes since our fight. He’s done nothing but ignore me and this is the first time I’ve received his full attention in days where there are no kids present and we can freely speak our minds.

“You’re not having an abortion, Molly.”

The moment I move toward the stairs to get up to my bedroom, Kai blocks my actions, causing me to stop in my tracks because I don’t want to be within arm’s length of him.

“Says who?” I shoot back. “The idea of having this baby with you is absolute torture.”

He perks a brow and slowly begins to round the kitchen island. “Torture? Sweetheart, I swear to you, if you do anything stupid, I’ll make sure to turn your life into a living hell.”

“You already are.”

“You haven’t seen that yet.”

“Haven’t I? You can’t look at me without a scowl, Kai. You won’t speak to me at all?”

“And what would you like me to say? Thank you? I appreciate you putting my whole life and our relationship on a piece of paper that you were going to give to fuck knows who? You know how I feel about all this, Molly.”

“And you’re making this into a bigger deal than it is. I wasn’t going to give that article to anyone.”

“Then why write it at all? If you wanted me for security, then just say it.”

“I don’t need you for security. I don’t need you at all. In fact, I don’t even need to be here anymore.”

“You’ll stay here until you—”

“Yeah, that’s not going to work for me,” I retort sharply as he inches closer. “I would rather not stay here. I don’t want to be within eyeshot, earshot, or any other kind of shot with you. I’ve never been so uncomfortable in my entire life, just because you won’t—”

“You did that toyourself,” he argues. “I didn’t write an article revealing my whole existence.”

“Don’t interrupt me while I’m talking.”

“Then say something that’s relevant. I’m not going round and round with you. Until I can figure out how we’re going to deal with this, you’ll be here so I can make sure you’re safe.”

“I was out of danger before you. I don’t need you.”

“You do now.” I step back when I’m within his reach, but Kai keeps moving forward. “You’re pregnant. And, if I have to keep reminding you, withmybaby. So, that means I have a say in this.”

“Cut your ties, Kai. I’m not going to drag you like Olivia did.”
