“You should never have fucking opened your mouth, omega. You’ve made everything worse and tainted our names. You ruined everything!” He screamed so loudly that spit sprayed over my face.

Trevor’s face was red with fury, veins popping as he lost control. His whole body was tense and I swallowed hard, bracing myself for another impact.

The entire encounter had me so stunned that I could barely react. I didn’t say a word, in fact, it was hard to even draw in a breath. Panic surged through my veins, warning me that I was in danger as if I didn’t already know.

“You could have had it all with us, omega,” Jacob spit out the word like a curse. “We were the perfect combination… you were submissive and quiet. You did as you were told.”

At this point, he was just goading me, trying to make me feel less than I was. That was the thing about abusers. They would be sweet and caring, make you fall in love with them, just so they could rip it all away.

However, when you truly got away like I had, there was no going back. I’d seen who they truly were and was left horrified. I would rather die than be back in a relationship with the two of them.

It seemed I might have to pay that exact price.

When I didn’t react enough, Trevor slammed me to the ground. His fist cocked back and then slammed into my gut before I could roll out of the way. I doubled over in pain, wheezing as the breath was torn from my chest.

There was a constant rain of blows and kicks as they took out their anger on me. My entire body was throbbing in pain, my vision blurring, and sticky, warm liquid pouring not just out of my cheek now, but any of the skin that was rubbing against the rough asphalt.

They tore into me as if I were a mere punching bag, not a person they had once claimed to love.

“Hey! What the fuck are you doing?”

The stranger’s voice was like an angel’s breaking through the storm. The attack stopped as they approached.

Tears were falling freely down my cheek and I was shaking uncontrollably. Even the pain was starting to ebb away. I knew that was a bad sign, one that meant I was going into shock, but I welcomed it with open arms.

I was barely conscious as the voices converged around me. They were different this time, softer, kind, gentle.

Sirens echoed in the night but all I could think of was my alpha and how terrible he was going to feel when he found me like this.

The soundof sirens had both Micah and I pausing. We were talking outside of the bank with the man who bought the storefront. Apparently, they were missing just a few signatures and we all had to go in to correct it so the closing went off without a hitch.

Further down the block, I saw Ezra tear out of the diner and my entire world stopped. I was running toward him, knowing something was wrong. His frantic eyes found mine and my heart was pounding frantically in my chest.

“What is it?”

“They found Bear, grocery store parking lot,” was all as he managed to get out. I was already changing direction and heading across the street, ignoring the cars honking as I bolted through the weeknight traffic.

I didn’t give a single fuck about my safety, all I knew was the incessant urge to protect my omega.

Though, I feared I was too late.

If there were sirens, the damage had been done. I just prayed that my omega was alive and could recover from whatever happened.

My brain tossed around scenario after scenario. Car accident. Attack. Robbery. But I knew deep down that they found him. Trevor and Jacob were behind this. And if they were, I wouldn’t rest until they’d both paid for their crimes.

I managed to arrive just as the EMS was loading Bear into the back of the ambulance.

“It was an alpha and a beta,” someone called out, describing Jacob and Trevor perfectly. If my focus wasn’t already in reaching my omega, I would have acknowledged them.

The EMS workers tried to hold me back but it was Bear who stopped them as he slipped in and out of consciousness.

“Collin,” he rasped out. The sound was followed by a wet cough that had me out of my mind with rage and worry.

The fact that my name was on his lips nearly broke me.
