“What did she want?” I asked reluctantly. A big part of me didn’t care anymore. They were dead to me.

“She asked if you were really pregnant. I told her no because that’s not my news to tell, but she also went on about how it wasn’t fair that we were treating her so poorly. She’s doing the best she can, after all. Micah told her that we weren’t interested in having any more conversations with her until she fixed things with you.”

“She doesn’t even have to do that. I have no interest in starting anything with them again. They’ve said their piece and I’ve said mine. She’s made her sideveryclear, they all have.”

Tori let out a sigh. “I just hate that I can’t fix things, but you’re right, she doesn’t deserve another chance. None of them do.”

“What about your dads?” Kat questioned.

“They’re pretty much useless,” Tori said. “Our beta dad is completely silent in all this. He’ll make a comment here and there but that’s about it. Our Alpha dad… well he’s just a dick. He was never around long enough to actually know any of us because he worked all the time. Mainly he’s a stranger to us all and a rain cloud that hung over our family. He’d storm in, make sure we were being good, then storm out just as quickly.”

“Mom was the real bully. She was the one who would pick at me, tell me I’m not good enough, or that I should be more like Micah and Tori.” The bitterness in my tone was laced with pain. It still hurt that she could do that to her own daughter, and that my beta dad allowed it.

“Man, fuck them. They don’t even deserve to know this baby. You’ve got my parents, Grant, Walter who will be the crazy old grandpa, we’re solid,” Serenity said. “Mom and dad are already planning to spoil you both.”

“Your parents were amazing,” I said before turning to Tori and Kat. “You guys should see their yard. I want to live out there.”

Serenity rolled her eyes. “Of course, they never had any of that until we were all out of the house. Mom always said she never had the time before because raising teenagers is exhausting.”

“I feel like that’s a valid point,” Kat defended. “We were terrible teens, there was always drama.”

“Speaking of drama,” Serenity said, her lips twisting into a wicked grin. “I’ve got two dates this weekend. One with an alpha and one with a beta.”

“Profiles,” Kat demanded. Serenity pulled the dating app up on her phone. I expected her to show us her phone but she turned on Kat’s TV and screen shared so we could all see.

“The alpha he’s a bit of a gym bro in his pictures, but he is panty melting in the flirting department,” she said as a disclaimer before pulling up his full profile. The very first picture of him was a shirtless mirror gym selfie. Flexing, of course. As she flipped through the rest, it showed a bit more of his personality. He was standing on a boat, holding up a fish, then on the beach with some friends, another at a sporting event. Clearly, he was a social guy but it didn’t seem like Serenity’s vibe at all.

“Okay on to the messages,” Kat demanded with a grin. “This is my favorite game.”

Serenity scrolled through them slowly, letting us read all of them, not embarrassed in the least about her own flirting and dirty talk. Honestly, I wish I had her confidence and ability to express just what she wanted in bed. I could learn a thing or two from it.

“Damn, girl, I need to borrow some of these lines,” Tori said as she fanned her face. “This is never how my online dating conversations go.”

Kat and Serenity turned toward her with excited grins. Now she’d walked right into a trap. Thank fuck, I was already packed up.

“We’re going to find this girl a date,” she announced.

“Oh, god,” Tori groaned. Her face was already bright red and I had a feeling that this was going to be an interesting game. “I walked right into that, didn’t I?”

“You did,” I agreed. “But I want to see the beta first.”

Serenity switched over to him. He was a bit older and seemed a little less in his party era.

“He gets points for those glasses,” I pointed out.

“I’m pretty sure they’re fake,” Serenity said as she flipped a few pictures ahead. “Look, he’s not wearing them in any others. It must have been just to make him look smarter.”

Despite their differences it was easy to tell Serenity had a type. Both men were fit and took pride in their appearance. From perfectly-styled hair to nice clothes, they were both attractive and clean cut. Mixed with dark hair and green eyes I knew she had a lot of unresolved feelings for her former mate. They both resembled the man from the photos.

Interesting.

“Our texts aren’t as exciting,” she said, showing off the fairly tame conversation for a few moments before getting bored. “I’m ready to move on to Tori. Let’s see your profile, girl.”

They walked my sister through connecting to the TV before her profile was on the screen for us all to see and judge.

“Pass me the phone, we’ve got to spruce this up,” Kat said. “Can I look at your photo album?”

“Do your worst,” Tori offered, giving it up without a fight. Clearly, my sister was ready to take dating seriously. I was excited for her, she’d been firmly in no commitment territory for a while. She deserved a good pack.
