“Unfortunately. How the fuck am I going to handle that many personalities? I barely tolerate my own,” I groaned. “They’re all so sweet and hopeful and I’m a broken omega.”

“‘Broken,’ my ass. I’ve seen you fight off an alpha with no trouble. You’ll have no issues keeping them in line,” Dad argued, shaking his head.

“It’s too much,” I protested. It was weak, at best, and he simply raised an eyebrow as he adjusted his fishing line.

“Too much or makes you feel too vulnerable? You’re not used to relying on anyone but yourself. Hell, it was hard to get you to rely on us,” he said as gently as possible. There was no real delicate way of calling your daughter out on her shit, though.

“I don’t like opening up to people. It leaves too many chances for them to hurt me.”

“You’re amazing, Serenity. I’ve never known anyone who is as strong and capable as you. But you also love hard, and that can get you in trouble. With the right pack, though, it could change your life.”

“Okay, Ellie,” I deadpanned. “She’s always telling me that it’ll be different when I find a pack.”

“It is,” he said evenly. “That’s how we’re designed. Your mother and I are the exception.”

They always talked about how they preferred just each other, but every once in a while they’ll let something slip. They had been hurt at some point in their past and found solace in each other. I was grateful for that, their relationship was one to aspire for.

Yet I had no desire to find myself locked into a relationship with eight men.

“Well, prepare yourself,” Dad hummed, pulling his line in already and dropping the pole down. “I invited a few of your new mates here. My way of saying you have our blessing. Just take your time, sweet girl. Get to know them and don’t rush if you don’t want to. This is your pace, your life, don’t forget that.”

Part of me wanted to protest or run away, but I knew my dad well enough to know he’d only do what he thought best.

“Okay, Dad. thank you.”

He kissed the top of my head.

“Anytime. I love you, sweet girl.”

“Love you, too,” I said, turning back to the water as he left. He only took his pole, leaving the rest.

It was several minutes before I heard anyone approach. The scent of almond and cherries hit me first… Isaac.

The alpha sat down next to me, looking at me first then over at the water.

“Are you alright?”

“No?” We both laughed at my answer.

“That’s understandable. Did your meeting with Silas turn out alright?”

His blue eyes studied me as I thought over how to answer. The concern there had me wanting to clue him in but he was still a stranger. Yet lying to him felt wrong.

“No and yes,” I admitted. “It’s a long, complicated story.”

“That you’re not ready to share,” he said. It wasn’t a question, he was tapping into my feelings, reading my cues and following them.

“Exactly,” I confirmed. “Tell me about yourself.”

“Well, I run a charter fishing boat with the guys. I say boat but it’s an actual yacht. My parents own the company and when I graduated, my dad handed me this boat. It was supposed to be temporary, a way to get to know the intricacies of the yachting business… but then it became a way of life.”

“I’m sure being out on the ocean is nice, during summer at least,” I noted. The entire Sulley Pack was kissed by the sun and in impeccable shape. I knew watching them run their yacht would be a sight to behold. All the muscles and exposed skin… sign me up.

“It’s not bad. We spend the winters in warmer weather and come back during the season here,” he explained then frowned. “I didn’t consider how that would change now.”

“We’re mates, that doesn’t mean I want you to change your entire life on my account,” I said. “I’m not needy like that.”

“You strike me as the opposite, actually,” he said. “But leaving my omega behind doesn’t exactly set well with me, either.”
