That was no longer an option. Even the thought of it made my stomach churn. I had a mate and all I wanted was her. But I couldn't exactly go to her now, not like this.

The sound of laughter startled me as a door swung open and four people stumbled out of the Mexican restaurant. Bear and Serenity were the ones trying to keep Ellie and their friend Katya upright and it was a quickly failing battle.

"Serenity?" I called out. "Do you need some help?"

A smile spread across her face and damn if that didn't chase away every bad feeling that had crept up today. This was the kind of pack I wanted, ones who were happy to see you.

She let go of her friend and came over to me, taking the cigarette from my hand and taking a drag before handing it back. She blew the smoke upward before giving me a wink.

"Nah, their ride is coming. They're going to get Kat home for me."

My eyes narrowed. "They were just going to leave you behind? What kind of friends just leave a drunk omega."

"No," she clarified. "I was going to go with them until I saw you. Now you can walk me home. And I'm not drunk."

That had me relaxing again.

"It would be my pleasure," I said as I put my arm over her shoulders and tucked her into my side.

"Look how cute they are," Kat cooed at us before she and Ellie dissolved into another fit of giggles. As long as I'd known Ellie on the show, not once had she let go like this. They must have had one hell of a night.

A pickup truck pulled up and two of Ellie's pack climbed out, helping Bear get the drunk omegas in the car.

"The dark-haired one is my cousin," Serenity told me, pointing him out. As soon as she said it, I could see the resemblance. He eyed me for a second, a dangerous glint in his eye like he was giving me all the usual warnings without saying a damn word.

It was far more terrifying that way.

"She's safe with you?" he questioned. Serenity scoffed but I nodded. That was good enough for him. He climbed in and they drove off, leaving us alone.

"I promise I didn't have as much to drink as they did," she said. I could easily see she was telling the truth. Her steps were steady now that she wasn't dragging someone outside. Her eyes were a bit glassy like she'd had a few drinks but clearly, she knew her limits.

That was definitely something I could respect.

I took another drag from my cigarette before handing it over to her. We walked quietly for a few minutes, heading to her place, and I swear with each step, her scent surrounded me more. My body was tense and I wanted nothing more than to fuck her right here in the streets.

It was the best kind of torment, every breath reminding me that she was mine.

Ours.

"God, you smell so good," she said with a groan. The alcohol had taken her filter.

"So do you," I admit. "It's hard to keep my distance."

"Then don't," she challenged, stopping and bending down to put out the cigarette before tossing it in a trash can before we left Main Street. "You look like you've had a rough night."

"I'm fine," I said, and this time, I actually meant it. She nodded, not pushing further.

"My place is two blocks this way," she said instead, gesturing for us to turn down Willow Street. I followed her lead with a hand on her lower back. it was impossible to not touch my mate. Every time she was near, she invaded every sense I had until all I could do was drown in her.

"Are we going to get attacked by the neighbor from hell?" I teased as we stepped onto her floor. She snorted and put a finger to her lips, telling me not to talk.

Serenity practically tiptoed down the hall and I followed the movements, not willing to have anyone interrupt us tonight.

Once we were safely inside the apartment she let out a breath.

"Is that how you come inside every night?"

"No," she laughed. "Sometimes, I just ignore her and walk inside."
