“You know me so well. Hit me with some loaded fries, too, and a Dr. Pepper. No water this time, I drank a whole bottle before I got here.”

Ezra turned to Silas. “Did she?”

Without skipping a beat or even looking guilty nodded his head.

“I made sure of it.”

Ezra’s eyes narrowed for a second before he finally, reluctantly, filled a large to-go cup.

“What will it be for you? I already know hers,” Ezra asked, pen poised over his order book.

“Just double whatever she's getting,” he said, pulling out his wallet so he could pay. Ezra looked at me in surprise when I didn’t protest. He let out a laugh and shook his head but rang up the bill for my mate.

“She’s a changed woman, ladies and gentlemen,” he muttered to me. I reached over trying to swat him in the arm but he moved further behind the counter before I could hit him. We'd always had this sort of relationship. We’re the battling siblings but we also have each other's backs, no questions asked.

He'd been even more relaxed and laid back since he found Ellie. I wasn’t the only one changed in this town. Lockwood seems to have become the epicenter of mates finding each other. It’s generally not quite this easy.

We paid for our food and walked back outside, Silas letting out of breath as the door slammed behind us.

“Man, I thought for sure he was going to know I was lying. You better have actually drank that water,” he eyed me playfully.

“You know I didn't,” I laughed. “I literally had coffee before I got home.”

He held his hand up in defense. “I'll leave the hydration to your cousin and the alphas.”

”Good, I love that plan,” I said as we hurried back toward my place. “Let’s not ruin this night with petty arguing.”

Out of all of my mates he was the only one I could imagine getting burgers and gaming with me like this. The others likely wouldn’t say no but they wouldn’t enjoy it the same.

Mrs. Bennett’s door didn't open until we were walking past and I started sprinting. Silas immediately matched my energy, both of us ducking inside my apartment and closing the door before she had a chance to call out to us. I waited for a moment, half expecting her to knock but thankfully she let us be.

I swear the woman needed to find a hobby that was not spying on me.

Silas took the boxes from my hand and put them on the coffee table. I kicked off my shoes and set my bag aside.

Before I could go to the couch he stopped me, one hand wrapping on my waist and pulling me closer while the other rested on my neck.

“I didn't get to give you a proper hello,” he said softly, leaning in and brushing his lips over mine. When he pulled away I followed, not letting him get away that easily.

My lips slanted over his, demanding he not tease me. Even when I prompted Silas he didn’t rush. His kiss was slow and exploratory, learning and tasting every part of my mouth he could. His attention had my body aching for him

When he pulled away we were both breathless and a goofy smile slid across his face.

“This is why they call you sunshine, isn't it?” he accused. “I swear every minute that I spend with you is just pure happiness.”

It’s so cheesy yet I know he’s sincere.

“That's because you've never gotten me up early in the morning. I'm a terrible morning person,” I admitted.

He rolled his eyes and pulled me over to the table, both of us dropping in front of the couch to eat.

Silas started playing first. Every time a zombie came out of nowhere he would jump and nearly threw the controller a few times. I’d never laughed so much playing a game like this.

The hours passed as we got deeper and deeper into the storyline and soon he was just as into it as I was.

The date was such a simple thing, eating junk food and spending it on the couch, yet it felt like I knew Silas better already.

This was something that was missing in every relationship hook up that I had. The quiet intimacy that didn’t require us getting physical.
