With them, it was more than just attraction and lust that I wanted. We enjoyed getting to know each other and forming a friendship as well as strengthening our bond.

This was what having mates was about.

Sometimes, it was fast-paced and full of sex, other times it was quiet moments stolen away from the others. It could be as simple as a conversation with the entire pack, laughing and sharing jokes.

Right now it was burgers and gaming and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

Serenity

"Your smiling is insufferable," Walter grumped as he walked past me, offering one final glare before moving the curtain aside to go back to his back office.

My laughter followed him and he pushed his hand through to flip me his middle finger. The fact he even noticed was insane. I couldn't help that I'd been smiling for days since the fair with the guys. It had been one hell of a night. Somehow my world had flipped in a matter of days and I had embraced it wholeheartedly which was completely unlike me.

”I think it looks great on you,” Ellie said as she crushed some herbs in her mortar and pestle. I swear her little tea counter made it look more like a witch's den than a cafe in here.

We couldn't complain, it always smelled amazing now. An earthy, rich mix of coffee and tea. Plus, business was better than ever.

I loved that Walter believed in us. He barely knew Ellie when he helped her get her tea business off the ground. He trusted Kat and I to take over after just working with us for a month or so, eventually telling us his plans to pass it along. He'd been looking for someone after losing his wife and we had settled in well with him.

It was humbling.

He was just too stubborn to let it go yet and I couldn't blame him, this was about all he had left.

The bell over the door rang and Kat and I moved to greet the new customer, only to find poor Max trying to make it through the door with a huge bouquet.

"Who wants to put bets on who it's for? Serenity and her new pack or Ellie and her pack of sappy men?" Kat teased.

"Hey, they're not this sappy," Ellie protested with a laugh.

"Nope, this one's for Serenity," Max announced, his voice strained as he brought it closer. "I don't think I've ever made such a big bouquet." The poor, petite guy had to wrap both of his arms around it, leaning to the side to even see us properly.

"It's insane," I breathed out in shock.

"Where should I set this?"

"Come on, Kat, help me with this," I laughed. "We'll just claim this corner table for it." Max practically fell over in relief when we took it.

"Oh, there's a card," Kat sang out, plucking it from amongst the petals and handing it to me. I flipped it over and read the note, the gold script giving nothing away since I hadn't really learned my guys' handwriting yet.

Your smile is my favorite thing about you.

The sentiment was sweet but it also didn't help me narrow down the culprit.

"Who is it from?" Ellie asked as she came over to join us.

"No clue. I'll have to ask the guys about it later."

"Judging from the size, my bet is the Sulley Pack," Ellie pointed out.

"Have a good day, ladies." Max waved at us but I caught him before he could run off.

"Thanks Max, you want a coffee on the house for having to lug that thing over here?" I offered. His eyes lit up.

"It doesn't have to be on the house but I'll take you up on a coffee. I'm so tired."

Kat narrowed her eyes. "Don't argue with us."

He gave in without a fight after that, his cheeks tinting pink at all of our attention on him.
