"When we get back to Lockwood I guess it's time to start looking for places, or rather for someone to help us find places," Isaac said. He was already taking charge and Amos didn't seem to mind in the least. It was refreshing.

"I'm sure the twins can get us in touch with someone," I said. "And I need to have a conversation with Walter." My chest ached at the thought. I didn't want to let him down but knowing Walter he would chastise me for even having that thought.

He knew how precious having a pack was.

These days, I couldn’t agree more.

Serenity

"That's so strange," I muttered as I looked down at my phone. There were several missed calls from the Lockwood Police Department.

"What's wrong?" Isaac asked as he stepped up beside me. I showed him the screen and his eyebrows rose.

"The police? That's crazy. Did you just now get the calls?"

"No, apparently, I don't have service out on the ocean." I laughed but I was too stressed for it to sound genuine.

The long weekend on the yacht had been amazing and I was in no way ready to go back to reality. Especially not with this added to it.

"Service is spotty on the harbor and nonexistent beyond. We should have warned you," Colt said. They all looked concerned now.

Not wanting to wait, I hit the button to return the call. It rang several times before a cheerful woman answered.

"Lockwood Police Department, how can I direct your call?"

"Hi, I missed a call from you? I was just calling back to see what it was about,” I said, giving her my basic info so she could figure out who it came from.

"Hm," she said as the keyboard clicked in the background. "It looks like that call came in from Detective Grady. I'll have him give you a call back as soon as he's at his desk," she promised.

"Okay, thank you," I said as disappointment hit me. The last thing I wanted to do was wait.

"That doesn't sound like good news," Amos guessed.

"She didn't know what it was about, but she did figure out who it was from. She said he'd call back as soon as he was at his desk. For now, I need to head back to my apartment. I need new clothes."

Isaac pointed to his car sitting in the lot. "Oaks and I can take you, the rest of the guys can head back to the inn."

They kept their rooms there since we'd only stayed in the motel for a few nights before we decided to go to sea. We really did need a place together and fast.

Oaks held the passenger door open for me and I climbed in. He leaned over me to buckle me in. Usually his scent of sage and spice could calm me immediately but my leg was still bouncing even after he pulled away, giving me a sympathetic smile.

"Look, I'm sure it's nothing," he said. "We’ll get your things and make a few calls."

"You're right," I agreed, but I didn't believe it for a second. If a detective was calling then whatever they had was a big deal.

We drove over to my apartment in tense silence. It only ramped up when we stepped into the hallway.

"What the hell?" I gasped, rushing forward to take in the police tape and splintered door frame. I ignored the tape and slipped inside, Isaac's protests following me before they did.

"If police tape is up that means they already checked it out. There isn't someone lurking in the corners," I reminded them.

My jaw dropped in shock at the sight that greeted me.

"What the actual fuck?" Oaks said.

My apartment was completely and utterly destroyed.

Every piece of furniture I had was smashed or broken, picture frames were busted on the ground so glass littered the carpet, every single cabinet in the kitchen was opened, the stuff inside slung onto the floor. My collection of mugs and wine glasses were shattered to pieces.
