“I’m always here for a party. We might need to run it past Oaks, I doubt he lets us order in food,” I joked.

“We’ll make it work,” Silas said with confidence.

“Come on, I’m ready to be back,” Amos said around a yawn.

Jackson took my hand and handed over my latte. I took a sip and waved bye to my friends as they led me back outside.

“Shit,” Amos cursed, plucking a note from his windshield. On this one, the handwriting was so dark it had etched deep grooves in the paper.

“He’s back,” Silas said in a quiet, broken whisper.

“What does it say?” Jackson demanded. Amos handed it over so he could read it and I bit back the sob that threatened to break free. I just wanted to be free of this, to live our lives without his presence looming over us.

“He’s gone off the deep end,” Jackson said. He tilted the paper so I could see and a single tear fell down my cheek.

She’s mine. You’ll never see her again.

Serenity

My nest was finally coming together. We found an extra-large mattress meant for packs and I filled the space with blankets, pillows, a mix of their shirts, boxers, anything that smelled like them. They never called me on stealing their clothes and never giving them back, so I took that as a sign that they liked it.

I sat in the middle of the bed, legs crossed, as I just breathed it in. My fingers ran over my treasures. A black shirt that was Isaac's, my favorite new hoodie I'd stolen from Oaks, Silas's graphic tee, Amos's boxers he wore the first time we'd had sex alone, Vince's pillow, and Sawyer's favorite blanket. Jackson was really the only one to protest when I stole his stuffed bear, but it was half-hearted at best. Colt's sweatpants were the final touch, the gray ones that rode low on his hips. I'd eventually give those back so I could ogle him, but for now, they were all mine.

The moment we got back from the coffee shop, I came in here. The stress from earlier had gotten to me and I needed a safe space. I told myself it was just to calm my nerves, but now I realized I was nesting. The longer I was in here, the warmer I was getting and I knew my heat was coming.

A soft knock on the door had me turning around as Silas poked his head in. A frown formed at the sight of me sitting in the quiet.

"Hey, sunshine, are you alright?" he questioned. He had a plate in hand with a snack on it, setting it aside when I didn't try to take it.

"I think I'm going into heat," I admitted. He sat down and took in the progress.

"Hey, that's where my stuff went," he protested. He moved like he was going to grab his things, but I growled, snatching it away and tucking it under my ass. Like that would actually stop him if he truly wanted it.

He held up his hands with a laugh. "It was just a joke, they're yours!" I hummed happily as I tucked it back in place, liking it exactly where I had it.

"I'm going to go warn the guys. Have you texted the others?"

"No," I admitted, pointing to the side table where my phone was. He grabbed it and handed it over.

"I'll be right back," he promised, brushing a kiss over my lips before disappearing. I opened the group chat sending them a text and waiting for a reply but nothing came. My stomach was in knots at the thought of them not getting my messages just like I hadn't received any while we were away. My first heat with a pack and over half of my pack was missing.

This was exactly what Isaac was afraid of happening if they left me.

I took a few deep, calming breaths knowing that I could trigger myself into heat earlier if I didn't calm down.

At this point, my skin was breaking into a sweat and I climbed off the bed, desperate for some fresh air.

"I'm heading out back!" I called. No one responded but I shrugged it off since Isaac had secured our backyard and fence as well.

It wasn't exactly the paradise my parents’ backyard was, but it was our own little slice of heaven. The swing was shaded by the lone tree in our yard and I headed straight for it, sitting down and closing my eyes. The cool breeze felt amazing on my heated skin.

Footsteps approached and I smiled, expecting to be hit with one of my guys’ scents. When it never came, dread poured over me and my eyes flew open.

A scream started to escape but Evrin's hand clamped down over my mouth, stopping me.

"Don't do that," he bit out. His voice was low and dripping with venom.

My body twisted as I struggled against him, nails tearing at his skin but he was unrelenting.
