"How dare you, Serenity? Wasn't ruining my college career enough?"

I laughed against his palm. The audacity of this man. Did he truly think that he was going to twist the past on me?

"Let me go!" I screamed against him, my voice muffled still but I hoped it was loud enough to not matter. Amos should feel my fear through the bond and I tried to cling to our connection, tugging on it with everything I had.

"Aren't you going to ask me why I'm here, sunshine?"

The nickname had never felt so wrong. It fell from his lips, a bitter and angry curse.

I shook my head since I couldn't speak and he laughed, his eyes flashing angrily. They were the same brown as Silas's but they lacked his warmth. My mate's eyes were rich and inviting, his were cold and dark. Just one glare struck a chord of fear through me.

He was a shell of the person that I knew.

Every cell in my body protested the touch, especially now that I was nearing heat. He leaned in close, his nostrils flaring. I panicked, worrying he'd sense it and go into a rut. It was uncommon but he was as crazy as an alpha could be.

"Look at that, going into heat for me. I've missed that," he purred in my ear. Bile rose in my throat and I closed my eyes, doing everything I could to call out for my mates. Only a few moments had passed but it felt like a lifetime.

I could hear somebody screaming my name inside as the guys tore the house apart trying to find where I went.

"Looks like we're going to have company. I guess I'll have to enjoy you later. Don't worry, I have a place for us. I'll lock you away and have my taste. You're going to love it," he said with a challenge in his tone, daring me to disagree.

Even with the warning I shook my head, denying that possibility with everything I had. I would never let him put his hands on me again. My body was growing tired and weak as I fought but he was stronger, refusing to let me go even as blood poured from his scratch marks.

The back door slammed open again and a sob broke free at the sight of my three mates. They screamed his name. I assumed Amos would be the first over here but Jackson was quicker, landing a punch directly into Evrin's nose. A sickening crunch had Evrin dropping me. Amos snatched me away and I watched as Jackson laid into his former friend. Punch after punch left him bloodied and broken. Silas struggled to pull him away and Amos had to let me go long enough to help.

"Stop," Silas begged. "You'll regret it."

Jackson turned to me. At this point, I was a blubbering mess. That was enough to break his resolve. He wiped his hands on his pants before coming over and wrapping me in a hug. He was shaking nearly as hard as I was and I just squeezed back, offering the simplest comfort despite knowing there was nothing that could fix this situation.

Not now.

Evrin had taken it too far.

Silas glanced between them like he wasn't sure what to do, torn between comforting his friends and beating the shit out of his brother.

Amos showed more control than I expected of him, lifting his brother up by the arm and slamming him down on the patio. Evrin ripped off his shirt, holding it to his nose as he glared back at his brother.

Silas stood and moved behind him, an extra security measure as Jackson held me tight.

"Don't think for a fucking second that I won't end your life for her," Amos threatened.

"You took her from me!" Evrin screamed back like he had any claim over me.

"She was never yours," Amos said with disgust. "You threw her away. Hell, we could have been one pack if you hadn't. But this one hundred percent rests on your shoulders, Evrin. You're no alpha."

There would be no coming back from this now. Family or not, he'd exposed himself as a monster and was now well and truly alone.

"We lost you a long time ago," Jackson said. "I just never expected you to stoop this low. Whatever you've turned into, I want no part of."

He'd put words to what he'd grappled with for months now.

"Come on, we have to call the cops," Silas urged. He reached out and picked up my phone where it had dropped. He didn't hand it over, instead dialing Grady's number. I was numb as he gave him our information and explained the situation.

Evrin had to have heard him but didn't react. He wasn't scared of being picked up by the cops and I was terrified that he would come back for us. This was our home. We'd lived here one fucking day and he'd already darkened its doorstep.

"How did you get in?" I demanded, wanting to know how he was able to break in despite our security system. Isaac had even put it on the gates for good measure.

Evrin's cold eyes turned toward me and he let out a laugh that had him wincing as fresh blood gushed from his broken nose. When he did speak it was nasally.
