“At least they’re asking about them,”I mimic him in annoyance. “Those are my baby boys you are talking about!”

Trigger chuckles at me, making me feel punchy. “Babe, they are teenagers. I was their age when I started messin–”

“Donotfinish that sentence,” I growl at him.

Trigger sighs before pulling me against his chest. “Bull said Tommy found birth control pills in Poppy’s bathroom. When he asked Winnie about it, she refused to talk about it.”

“Oh no,” I groan. “Which one?”

“Hard to tell with them, babe. You know how they’ve always been.”

It makes me sick to my stomach thinking about my boys growing up and getting to that stage of their lives. I know deep in my gut I can trust Trigger to lead them in the right direction, but I can’t help thinking of that old saying, “You can lead the horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.”

“I’ll take care of it, Red. I just wanted you to know.”

“I know you will. And I love you for that,” I say, turning to kiss his beard covered cheek.

As he’s proven time and again in our almost fifteen years together, Trigger has my back with everything. I can trust that he will always be there for me whenever life gets too big for me to handle. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner than him, as a husband and as a father.

I’m so glad I didn’t listen to my inner demons all those years ago when I assumed we would be just like my parents. We arenothinglike my parents. My kids know without a shadow of a doubt that their parents love each other more than anything in the world and that they are a product of that love.

That is all I’ve ever wanted. And Jamie Hart made all of those dreams come true.

The End.
