Her car is a damn deathtrap. I don’t know how someone can be comfortable driving a Volkswagen bug. The shit is so fucking small I don’t even fit in it.

Pebbles is out the door before I can even knock. She smiles brightly at me and my breath catches in my throat as I take in her beauty. I haven’t seen her in a skin tight shirt since before, and my eyes zero in on the tank top stretched across her rounded belly where my babies are safely resting.

I want to touch her stomach so fucking badly. I flex my hands and cross them across my chest, forcing myself not to rub her. She smiles and reaches out to rest her small hand against my bicep. She uses her other hand to free one of mine and tears threaten my vision as she leads my big hand to rest against her stomach.

Emotions rack my body as I drop to my knees on the concrete in front of her. Pebbles sucks in a breath as I hold her belly in my hands, resting my forehead against her middle.

I feel a tear drop, disappearing in my beard as I pull back to look into Pebbles honey-brown eyes. Her own eyelids are lined with unshed tears. I place a kiss against her belly before pushing off the concrete and rubbing the back of my hand against my eyes.

“Thank you,” I choke out, clearing the emotion out of my throat. I try to regain composure before asking, “Do you have the keys to the Explorer?”

Reaching into her purse, she pulls out the purple keychain I bought her when I bought the SUV.

I open her door for her and shut her in before rounding the car. Prior to opening my own door, I stop and take a deep breath to get the rest of my emotions in check.

The entire drive into the city, Pebbles watches the scenery out her window. Just as I’m pulling into the parking garage, my phone rings.

Razor calling.

“What’s up?” I answer after pressing the green accept button.

“I was told to give you a call. Horse got the green light.”

I drop my head to the steering wheel in front of me. “Thank fuck.” I scrub my hand against my beard. “That is fucking amazing.”

“Yeah, bro. We’ll all be there today. I think Maggie might even come.”

“Damn. That’s awesome. Alright, I’ll see you all in a little bit.”

I catch Pebbles eyes as I end the call and shut the car off. At her curious expression, I grin at her. “All of Horse’s tests came back great. They aren’t giving him meds to keep him asleep anymore. He will wake up whenever he’s ready.”

Her beautiful smile overtakes her face and I’m momentarily stunned again as I realize once again how fucking beautiful she is.

I follow her up to the doctor’s office and wait as she signs in. When the nurse comes out to get her, she tells me to wait out here in the waiting room until they are ready for me.

Fifteen minutes later, the young girl comes back out and nods at me to follow her. Anxiety creeps its way through my veins as I follow behind her to the exam room Pebbles is in.

She guides me inside where I find Pebbles sitting on the exam table, looking nervously back at me.

“Thank you,” I nod to the nurse.

“Dr. Murphy will be in in just a few minutes.”

I look around the room. It’s obviously decorated to try and calm people down with the soft colors and tranquil photos on the walls.

Pebbles face breaks out into a wide smile when a middle aged African American woman walks in the door.

“Good afternoon, Heather! How are you doing today?”

My eyes jump to Pebbles and my heartrate kicks up at the first sound of her voice in what feels like ages. Her voice sounds the same, but different. Shy almost.

Pebbles has never been a shy person.

“Hi, Dr. Murphy. I’m good.”

The pretty doctor smiles at my girl as she stops in front of her, taking her hands in hers.
