“We’re really sorry,” I called after her.

“Speak for yourself,” Krista said. She then turned to Kyle, who was fortunately, or maybe unfortunately, putting a shirt on. “She seems great,” Krista added, a fake smile plastered to her face.

“Don’t,” Kyle said, sounding tired. “Don’t start with me right now, Krista, I swear to God.”

Kyle’s sex partner, or maybe date, emerged from what was definitely a bathroom, I could tell now that the light was on, and her dress hardly covered any of her previously exposed body parts.

Now that I was actually looking at her, she appeared young, not too young, but definitely early twenties. Her dress was tiny and shiny silver, essentially just a strip of shiny material covering her nipples and hips, connected by a thin strip running down her completely flat and toned stomach.

As I looked at her body, I questioned every single piece of food I put in my mouth over my whole life.Damn non-healthy food to hell for tasting so good. Then, I made myself snap out of it. I did like my body, plus, it had carried and nourished a human. I was pretty proud of myself for that.

“You need to get me home, Kyle,” the woman snapped.

“Come on, Bella,” Kyle said, running a hand through his dark, shaggy hair. I noted that I liked this grown out look. It wasn’t very billionaire of him, but it was very Kyle. I guess I thought maybe he’d look different somehow, but he didn’t. Same blue eyes, same dark hair, same strong jawline. “We just got here and I’m tired. We’ve had a long day,” he said to her, grinning like they’ve been fucking non-stop since sunrise.

“Aretheystaying here?” Bella asked.

“We,” Krista emphasized, “are staying here. There are six bedrooms. I think you can share, honey.”

“We won’t even know they’re here,” Kyle said.

My mouth and brain decided it was best I didn’t speak, even though Krista and Kyle both looked at me like they wanted me to agree with them.

“But I already know they’re here. Can you just take me home, please?” Bella rubbed up against him, pressing her small but perky tits against his arm.

“You live in NYC, Bella,” Kyle said. “I’d have to get a plane for you.”

“So,” she countered as if she was asking him to drive her down the block.

“We’re staying, Bella,” he said again. If I wasn’t mistaken, Kyle shifted away from her to create some space between them. At least that was what it looked like.

There was a tension filled moment of silence that passed between them. I shifted uncomfortably while Krista glared at Bella, who glared right back. What kind of lunatic didn’t want their boyfriend’s sister to like them was beyond me.

“We can just leave,” I blurted out. “It’s fine.”

“We just got here,” Krista said.

Panic was rising in my chest. I suddenly realized just how much I not only didn’t want to stay with Kyle, but how much I didn’t want to stay with Kyle and his girlfriend.

“We can just get a hotel room.” I secured my bag on my shoulder. My jeans and sweater didn’t feel so cute anymore. “There have to be plenty and that way no one will be in anyone else’s way.”

“Uh, no,” Krista said. “We’re staying here. If she wants to leave it’s no skin off my nose.”

“Kyle,” Bella whined. “Call me a plane. Right now,” she demanded. Bella then brushed past us both and then walked out the front door. Still only wearing her skimpy dress.

“She’s going to freeze to death,” I mumbled under my breath.

“She’ll be fine,” Kyle said, somehow hearing me. “Wait here.”

His tone was so full of confidence and commanding, I didn’t budge from my spot at the edge of the living room. Krista, on the other hand, dumped her bag on the floor and headed for the kitchen.

“Come on, Emma. We both need a drink. What do you want?” I heard cupboards opening and bottles clanking. “Tequila? Gin? Come here and let’s make drinks.”

Realizing I didn’t need to follow Kyle’s orders, I dropped my stuff next to Krista’s and headed to the kitchen just off the living room. It was all windows and granite countertops. The stove was massive, as was the fridge, and all the appliances were stainless steel, not a fingerprint in site. I wasn’t much of a cook, I was learning now that I had Emma, but this kitchen made even me want to whip something up.

“You know I can’t drink tequila,” I said, sitting on one of the five leather topped stools around the island in the middle of the kitchen. “How about a whiskey sour.”

Krista made a face. “Fine.” She rummaged around until she found the glass she was looking for. “Can you believe that chick? What a piece of work. Where does Kyle even meet these women? And to be so entitled and so naked at the same time.” She shivered. “Yuck.”
