Emma looked at me, fighting back a smile. “You bought her something, didn’t you?”

“I did,” I admitted. “But it’s very small.”

Emma shook her head, but she was smiling. “You have your daddy wrapped around your little finger, princess.”

“I do,” Lily said sweetly. “Where is it?” she asked me.

“On your bed.” I set her down and she ran off.

“I wanna see, too,” Emma called after her, heading in her direction.

I grabbed her hand and pulled her into a kiss. “I have a present for you, too.”

“Oh yeah?” she asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Yes. But you don’t get it until tonight.”

“Mmm,” she moaned. “Can’t wait.”

While Emma made her way upstairs, Krista barged in through the front door with Dante. I walked over to the living room to greet them.

“Did you do it yet?” she asked excitedly.

“Shhh,” I whispered. “No, I didn’t. And don’t ruin the surprise.”

“I won’t.” She set down her present on the fireplace while Dante and I shook hands. “I’m just so freakin’ excited.”

To both Emma’s and my surprise, no one was more excited for our relationship than Krista. She was our biggest cheerleader, telling us it was about time I got serious and maned up.

“I’m excited too.”

I was going to propose to Emma after the party. I’d tried to propose to her multiple times since we’d gotten together, but she insisted we wait, even though we both knew that was where we’d end up. First, she told me to wait until after Jackson was born. She said she didn’t want to feel like I was only doing it because I’d knocked her up. Then, she told me to wait until he was at least one because newborns made people do crazy things.

I told myself I would wait a couple weeks as to not take away from his birthday, but now that the day had come, I couldn’t wait a second longer to not be engaged to her.

“Do you think she’ll say yes?” Krista asked.

I playfully slapped at her arm. “Why would you say that to me?”

“Because you two are grossly in love and I can’t believe you haven’t been married two times by now and I love nothing more than to get a rise out of you.”

I laughed. “Yeah, that sounds about right.”

“Thank you, Daddy!” Lily said, running back into the living room. “Aunt Krista! Look what Daddy got me.” She held up the tiara I bought her last week.

“Small my ass,” Emma said.

To be fair, the tiara itself was small, the price tag was not. It was real gold and diamonds. “Well, I am a billionaire, baby. It was nothing to me.”

Krista and Emma looked at each other and groaned, making gagging noises to each other.

Our guests started arriving then and the waitstaff jumped into action. There wasn’t an empty plate or dry cup in the place. Jackson was fully being celebrated all while he wobbled around the room, reaching for anyone and everyone to pick him up. He was the most social person I’d ever met.

I watched Emma make her way around the room, greeting guests and thanking them for coming. When I couldn’t stand being away from her any longer, I pulled her into my arms and down onto my lap as I sat on the couch. I was happy to host the party, I was happy to be at the party, but I was more interested in Emma then in mingling.

“Kyle,” she said. “Is there something in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?” She laughed.

“Why can’t it be both?” I asked.

She moved in my lap until she was looking at me. “What’s in your pocket?”

“You’ll find out tonight, Mrs. Beckford.”
