She hated that she woke him, but she was scared, and she was afraid to fall asleep because she didn’t want to have nightmares. “I’m sorry to wake you.”
With her eyes adjusted to the dark, she could see him sit up on the couch.
“Come here,” he said softly.
Walking over to him, she let him pull her down onto the couch next to him. His arms wrapped around her, and she realized he wasn’t wearing a shirt. It wasn’t like she hadn’t seen him without a shirt before, but she’d never touched his bare chest. It was both comforting and arousing at the same time.
He held her firmly, and she instantly relaxed against him. Compared to her, Kade was enormous. He was over six feet tall and muscular. He looked like he worked out every day when in reality she was pretty sure he got all his muscles from working in his motorcycle shop.
“Did you have a bad dream?”
She shook her head. “No. I never fell asleep. Every time I try, I keep thinking about those letters and photos. I just don’t understand. Why would someone be doing this?”
His hand moved up to her head as she rested it on his shoulder, and he started stroking her hair. “I don’t know, baby. You’re safe with me, though. I’m not going to let anyone hurt you.”
Yeah, she knew that. Kade would protect her with his own life. “I know. You’re so good to everyone in the MC.”
He stilled his hand. “I’m not protecting you just because you’re MC family. I’m protecting you because I care about you, Remi. I always have.”
Letting out a sigh, she nodded and clutched her bear tighter. She cared about him too. It was weird being the center of his attention because she’d always stayed in the background and she’d always thought he was avoiding her, so she’d only been able to know him from a distance.
Kade shifted and stood, pulling her up into his arms. She reached up and looped her arm around his neck. “What are you doing?”
“I’m taking you to bed.”
Her bottom lip trembled. “I don’t want to be alone.”
His arms tightened. “I’m not leaving you alone. I’ll stay with you.”
Oh. Well, that was nice. Wait, was he going to stay in bed with her? Or was he going to sit in the chair in the corner of the room? She didn’t have to wait long to find out because as soon as he set her down on the bed, he slid in next to her and tucked his arm under her neck, pulling her into him.
Her face was so close to his chest that even in the dim lighting, she could trace her finger along the lines of his tattoos. “Kade?”
“Yeah, baby?”
“You smell good. Kind of edible.”
He let out a low, throaty groan. “Go to sleep before you kill me, Princess.”
A slow smile spread across her face, and she was glad he couldn’t see her in the dark because she was pretty sure her cheeks were the color of rubies. And if she were feeling just a little more bold, she probably would have slid her hand under the sheets to see if she would find something hard under there, but she wasn’t feeling bold. She was feeling Little and safe, which made her very sleepy.
Letting out a soft sigh, she closed her eyes and snuggled into his chest, and within seconds, she shifted into a peaceful dreamland.

Remi woke with the need to void her bladder, but she was so warm and comfortable in her bed that she didn’t want to move. Then she remembered she wasn’t in her bed. She was in Kade’s bed, and based on the hand stroking her bicep, she wasn’t alone.
Shifting onto her back, she rolled right into Kade’s chest, making her eyes pop open. He was looking down at her and holy shit. Morning Kade was freaking sexy. His normally tousled hair was even more messy, and his five-o’clock shadow was filling in, making him look scruffy but in a “doing it on purpose” kind of way. When he slowly smiled, she realized she was staring and raised her eyes to his.
“Morning.”
Oh, God, even his voice was deeper and had that gravelly thing going on. She couldn’t stop herself from squeezing her thighs together. “Hi.”
Hi? Smooth, Remi.
“You seemed to sleep well once I tucked you in and got into bed with you.”
Oh, great, they were going to start the morning off with her blushing. “Yeah. I did. Thank you.”
