She could go to the police but there weren’t any threats in the letters. They were creepy as hell with declarations of love and calling her a perfect little doll. It made her skin crawl but it really wasn’t enough to call the cops. And she definitely wasn’t going to go to her dad. She was still so worried about him. And she wasn’t calling her brother, either, because he would insist on telling their dad, so that wasn’t happening.

Letting out a sigh, she got out of her car and made her way up the walkway to the front door of her apartment. She was only halfway there when she saw another envelope taped to the door. A blue envelope with her name scribbled across the front.

Her entire body started to tremble as she slowly walked the rest of the way up the path. She looked all around her, making sure no one was lurking about before she grabbed the envelope and rushed inside, locking the door behind her.

Dropping her purse on the floor, she held the envelope in her shaking hands, trying to swallow the bile rising in her throat. Tearing it open, she gasped when instead of a letter, photos fell out onto the floor at her feet. Nearly a dozen pictures. All of them were of her in her apartment, in her bedroom. Oh, God. Whoever it was knew her secret. They knew what she was, and somehow they’d gotten photos of her in her own bedroom.

Don’t freak out, Remi. Don’t freak out. Don’t freak out.

She was totally freaking out. How could she not be? This was the fifth time someone had delivered anonymous mail. On every envelope, it said the same thing on the outside.

Remi, my little doll.

The first letter had been short and simple. Nothing particularly ominous except that it had been delivered to her apartment. The second letter was a little creepy. Details about herself that meant the person sending her the letters knew her. The third letter had her looking over her shoulder every time she was outside of her apartment because it was obvious the person was following her.

But who? Who would be that obsessed with her? Even though she worked at a bar, she only served drinks and didn’t mingle with the customers other than to get their orders and give them their tabs.

But this… this was different. These were photos. Bending over, she swayed as she picked them up. She felt lightheaded. Almost feeling drunk, she walked over to the couch and sank down, dropping the pictures onto the coffee table where the other letters were sitting.

This was getting serious. Someone was truly stalking her. Not just writing letters but actually spying on her. Taking pictures through her windows. She shuddered at the thought. What all had they seen?

Her first thought was to call her dad, but his heart was still weak and the doctors told him he needed to keep his stress to a minimum. She could call Steele, the president of Shadowridge Guardians MC, but she didn’t want to bother him. He was in a new relationship and she didn’t want to get him involved. What if whoever was doing this was dangerous? Was she in danger?

Looking around her apartment, she jumped up from the couch and ran from window to window, pulling all the blinds closed. Were they out there right now? Watching her?

Oh, God. She dropped back down onto the couch. Sharp breaths started sawing in and out of her lungs as she tried to stop the world from going dark. She was going to have a panic attack if she didn’t get control of herself.

Think, Remi. Who can you call? Who do you trust?

She knew who she trusted. She knew he would protect her even if he didn’t like her. It was his job in the MC, after all. To protect the members and their families from threats. But if he saw the photos, her secret would be revealed. What would he think of her then? He’d think she was a fraud, that’s what.

Looking down at the photos, her hands started to shake again. She just didn’t understand why this was happening.

A hard knock on her front door practically caused her to catapult from the couch. Was that them? Shit. Did they know she was in there by herself? Of course they did. They’d taken photos of her inside her apartment. What if they were there to hurt her? Or kill her? Oh, God. She had to do something.

Getting down on all fours on the carpeted floor, she made herself as small as possible and crawled under her dining room table, pulling in the chairs to keep her enclosed in the smallest space possible. She pulled her phone from her back pocket, and opened the messenger app. She needed him. It didn’t matter that he would find out the real her. He would keep her safe. It was either he find out her secret or she’d end up dead. At this point, him finding out her secret was the much more appealing option.

Not wanting to make any noise, she typed up a message as fast as she could.

Remi: Help.

Remi: I’m at my apartment.

Remi: Hurry. I’m scared.

Remi: Don’t tell my dad.

Her fingers shook as she typed out the messages, sending one right after the other. Almost immediately, her phone started ringing and she fumbled to silence it. Hitting the answer button, she brought it up to her ear.

“Kade,” she whispered.

“Remi, what’s wrong?” he demanded.

She could hear rustling in the background like he was already on the move.

Holding her hand up to her mouth, she whispered as quietly as possible. “I need help. I’m scared, Kade.”

“I’m coming. Do I need to bring backup?”
