“No. Don’t tell anyone,” she sniffled. “Please, Kade.”

“Remi, you’re freaking me out. What the fuck is going on? Why are you whispering?”

“I don’t know what’s going on. I’m scared. Someone is…”

Another knock at the door made her jump and whimper.

“What was that?” he barked.

She couldn’t speak. What if they heard her? What if they broke in before Kade got there? She held her hand up to her mouth to cover the sounds of her whimpering, but she couldn’t get the control she wanted. She heard him start up his bike and prayed he was at his house, which was closer to her than the compound.

“I’m coming, baby girl. I’ll be there soon. Stay on the phone with me.”

“’Kay.”

Pulling her knees up to her chest, she whimpered and listened to the soothing purr of his motorcycle through the phone. He didn’t speak, but just being able to hear him, knowing he was on his way to her, helped calm her.

Minutes felt like hours, but then she heard his bike turn off.

“Can you open the door, Remi?” he asked.

“Are you outside?”

“Yeah, baby, I’m right outside.”

Baby. She probably would have soaked up that little nickname if she weren’t so scared out of her mind. “I’m scared.”

“I know. I’m at the front door. It’s just me. Open the door for me, or I’m going to kick it in.”

Crawling out from under the table, she got to her feet and went to the door, rising to her toes to look out of the tiny peephole. As soon as she saw it really was Kade, she swung the door open and threw herself at him, sobbing.

His arms tightened around her and he carried her inside the apartment, kicking the door shut behind him before turning around to lock it. He set her on her feet and looked down at her with his eyebrows pulled together in concern. “Remi, what’s wrong? What’s going on?”

“T-they won’t stop sending stuff.”

He kept his hands on her biceps as he looked down at her, and the warmth of his skin on her arms soothed her more than she’d expected.

“Who, Remi? What stuff? Baby, I need to know what the fuck is going on.”

Raising her shaking hand, she pointed toward the coffee table where she’d left all the letters and photos. He looked in the direction she pointed and then back at her before he released her, went to the table, and stared down at what was there.

When he raised his gaze, his eyes were practically black, and his expression was deadly. “Who the fuck is sending this?”

THREE

KADE

He stared down at the pieces of paper and photographs in complete shock. Someone had been taking pictures of her in her apartment and sending her notes. What the fuck? And the photos weren’t just random photos of her in her living room. They were pictures of her in her bedroom. In her goddamn bedroom. Rage filled him, and it took every ounce of restraint not to smash the table in front of him. The only thing stopping him from doing so was that he didn’t want to scare Remi.

“When did you start getting these? Have you called the cops? Who else knows?”

She stared up at him with tears streaming down her cheeks, and he felt like an ass for firing so many questions at her while she was so upset, but he needed to know. He needed to know who he needed to kill because someone was going to pay dearly for this.

“The first one came three weeks ago. The photos came today, and then someone was knocking and I freaked out, and that’s when I called you.”

He looked around, trying to figure out what to do. It was obvious she wasn’t safe in her apartment if they were leaving letters there. “We need to get you out of here. Pack a bag. I’m taking you to the compound.”

Her eyes widened, and she started shaking her head. “I can’t go to the compound. My dad can’t know, Kade. He’ll have another heart attack. He’s still too weak to deal with extra stress.”
