“Hmm?”

“Thank you… for everything. For helping me and being my Daddy and all of that. This has been the best few days of my life. I’ve never felt so cared for.”

He studied her for several seconds. “Your dad has always loved and cared for you.”

Nodding, she shrugged. “Yes, he always loved me and Atlas. We knew he loved us. But I think after my mom died, he lost part of himself with her, and while he did the best he could with us, he spent so many years grieving that sometimes, it felt like he wasn’t there. He always cared for us but emotionally he was lost, I think. He’s an amazing dad and I love him so much, but I think I lost out on that part, which I understand. I can’t imagine losing the person I loved.”

Cupping her chin, he offered a sad smile. “Your mom was an amazing woman and I know it was devastating for your dad to lose her. I know it was because of you and Atlas that he even survived through it all.”

She nodded, thinking about her brother. Atlas had been the best brother ever, and she hated that he lived so far away. She could hardly wait to see him at Christmas time.

Kade started washing her, taking delicate care as if she was fragile. It was kind of silly seeing a big, tattooed biker kneeling at the side of the tub, washing her while she sat in a pool of pink bubbles. The thought made her giggle.

“What’s so funny?” he asked.

Shrugging her shoulders, she gave him an innocent look. “Nothing, Daddy.”

“Mmhmm. Brat.”

She grinned as she played while he finished washing her body. As soon as he was done, he pulled the drain and lifted her from the water. Now that she was all clean, she wondered if she’d get to experience his mouth on her again before bedtime.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Instead, he helped her into some pajamas, then tucked her into bed, sliding the pacifier between her lips before he picked up a picture book and read it to her. Her eyes started getting heavy halfway through, and before the story was over, she faded to sleep.

NINETEEN

KADE

“If you feel like there is anyone in the bar giving you bad vibes, you signal to the guys and they will come right over.”

Remi shot him an exasperated look. “Daddy, I know. You’ve told me this like twenty times. If anything makes me feel uncomfortable, even if I get a splinter, I’m to signal to the guys and they will come running.”

It was his turn to shoot her an exasperated look. The little smart ass was halfway to getting her butt reddened before work. He was nervous about letting her go. He’d even considered not going to work and going to work with her, but she’d insisted that everything would be fine and she’d never felt threatened at The Hangout.

“Little girl, this is serious. We don’t know who this asshole is, and we can’t take any chances.”

She walked over to him, lifting her hands to cup the sides of his face. He stared down into her dark eyes and his heart felt as though it was going to beat out of his chest.

“Daddy, I promise I’ll be extra vigilant and the guys will be paying attention too. You don’t have to worry. Everything is going to be fine.”

“I do have to worry. You’re my girl and I love you. If anything happened to you, I don’t know what I’d do, Remi. I wouldn’t fucking survive that.”

Her eyes widened. “You love me?”

Shit. He hadn’t meant for that to slip out but it had, so he just nodded. “Yes. I think I have for a long time, but I didn’t realize it until the past couple of days.”

Rising to her tiptoes, she pulled his face down to hers and kissed him. He wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted her so her feet were dangling in the air until she wrapped them around his waist and clung to him. Using his tongue to part her lips, he explored her mouth until they were both out of breath.

Her lips were swollen when he pulled away, but her eyes were sparkling as she stared at him. “I love you too, Daddy. So much.”

“Really?”

Nodding, she grinned. “Yes. I don’t want anyone else. I want you, and I want this. I want our dynamic, and I want to be your old lady.”

Throwing his head back to laugh, he shook his head. “You don’t get to be my old lady.”

Her face fell, making him chuckle.

“You don’t get to be my old lady because you’re my Little girl.”
