Dammit. He hated keeping stuff from her dad. But she was right. Rock was still recovering, and Kade didn’t want to be responsible for his friend ending up back in the hospital or worse.

He strode over to her. “You can’t stay here, Remi. I’m either taking you to the compound or you’re coming home with me. Take your pick but while you decide, go pack a bag.”

When she didn’t move, he grabbed hold of her arm and led her toward what he assumed was her bedroom, and he was right. Except when he walked in, he hadn’t been expecting what he saw.

Pink everywhere. Her bedding, her curtains, an area rug, even her makeup vanity was pink. And the shock didn’t stop there. Her bed was filled with stuffies. She probably had at least fifty of them on the full-size bed. Where the hell did she sleep?

Turning his head, he looked down and found her staring up at him with a look of shock on her face. Did she think he was going to judge her? Hell, he loved seeing her room like that. It did things to him he didn’t want to think about right then. He was more surprised than anything. The dark queen was secretly a fairy princess.

“Don’t you dare tell anyone that I like pink. I’ll hurt you if you do,” she whispered.

Narrowing his eyes toward her, he shook his head. “I would never tell your secrets. For now, pack a bag and whatever you need so you can sleep.”

He motioned toward her sea of stuffies.

She lowered her dark eyes, looked over at her bed, and then shifted her gaze back up to him. “I need all of them to be able to sleep.”

If there wasn’t a looming threat happening, he would have found that to be the most adorable Little thing to say, but now wasn’t the time to indulge her Little side. If she even was Little. Just because she liked pink didn’t mean anything. And the bed of stuffed toys didn’t mean anything either. Lots of people liked to sleep with stuffed toys. Not usually that many but still, he couldn’t just make assumptions… even though he absolutely was because holy fuck, he wanted her to be a Little more than he could ever remember wanting anything. “I need you to pick the most important ones for now, and I’ll come back another time to get the rest. We need to get out of here. Do you need help packing?”

Her sad eyes nearly made him crumble. He knew stuffies were important but seriously? That many? She shook her head and started digging through dresser drawers.

She was almost packed up when someone knocked on the door, making her cry out and look to him with absolute terror on her face. He pulled his gun from the back of his pants and looked at her sternly. “Do not leave this room. Understand?”

Her entire body shook as she nodded. He closed her into the bedroom and went to the front door, looking out of the peephole. When he didn’t see anyone out there, he slowly unlocked the door and opened it, ready to aim and fire if necessary, but he didn’t see anyone. When he looked down, his blood went cold. Sitting on the doormat was a vase full of black roses. Picking up the vase, he looked it over, trying to find a card. When he found one, he brought the vase inside, making sure the front door was locked before he took it into the kitchen and set it on the counter.

Snatching the card, he ripped it open.

Black roses for my perfect little doll. I can’t wait to make you mine.

He let out a low growl and slammed the card onto the counter.

“What does it say?”

Spinning around, he glared at her. “Dammit. I told you to stay in the bedroom, Remi.”

Her dark eyes moved from the card up to his gaze. “I heard you shut and lock the door. What does the card say, Kade?”

Kade stomped over to her, stopped just inches away, and lowered his face to hers so he was at eye level with her. “I don’t care what you heard. If I tell you to do something, especially in regard to your safety, you do it. I can’t protect you if you don’t obey me. Do something like that again and you won’t sit for a week. Got it?”

She stared at him for a long moment before she slowly nodded. Yeah, he was being an ass. He knew he was being an ass, but the one girl he’d cared about in years was being threatened by some stalker, and he would do whatever was necessary to protect her, including spanking her ass if that’s what it took to get her to obey him.

“Fine,” she snapped.

FOUR

REMI

So many things were going on at once, and she was about to have a meltdown. She couldn’t handle it all. Not only was Kade being a jerk and bossing her around, but there was a stalker leaving stuff on her doorstep. Twice in one day. And when Kade had left her alone in her bedroom, she’d panicked. Now her only option was to either go home with Kade or go to the compound where her dad lived. She could not go to the club. Her dad was still too weak for this kind of stress.

Kade straightened. “We need to go.”

Feeling too tired to argue, she let him lead her back to her bedroom where she had as many belongings packed into a bag as she could get. Without hesitating, Kade grabbed the pink bag and led her back out to the living room where he grabbed the letters and photos and stuffed them into the pocket of his cut.

Running his fingers through his hair, he looked around. “Need anything else?”

She shook her head and grabbed her black purse, which was also a mini backpack with bat wings on it, and followed him to the front door.

He turned and looked down at her. “I’m going to follow you on my bike. Do you remember where I live?”
