“Yes, what?” My heart was thumping wildly in my chest. I’d talked to my mother and my brothers about the best way to approach Delaney about marrying her mother. They were all in agreement that it had to be something special. I’d come up with the necklace and decided to just ask her when we had a quiet moment, and after finding out about our baby last night, it was time to make Delaney and Natalie mine.
“I want to be in your family, and I want you to marry my mom,” she said solemnly, as if she knew how important this moment was.
“I want that too.” I clasped the necklace around her neck, and she threw her arms around mine. I squeezed my eyes shut, and when I opened them, Natalie stood in the doorway.
I cleared my throat as Delaney shifted to sit on my leg. I was still holding the velvet box that contained Natalie’s ring. I couldn’t think of a better moment to ask her. “I just asked Delaney if she’d be part of my family, and she said yes.”
Natalie moved across the room to stand in front of us.
“But I have one more question,” I said as Natalie’s gaze met mine, and I shifted so Delaney was sitting on the couch. I urged Natalie to sit next to her, and then I dropped down on one knee. “I never thought I’d find what I wanted, love and a family, but I have everything with you. I know it’s a forever kind of love, and I can’t imagine a future without you in it. Natalie, will you marry me?”
Natalie’s eyes filled with tears as she nodded. “Of course.”
“The ring,” Delaney prompted.
I didn’t know how I would have done this without her. I popped open the lid, the diamond shining in the morning light. I couldn’t have conjured up a more perfect morning than this.
I slid the ring onto her finger as Natalie kissed me. With Delaney next to us, I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be. These girls were my life, and I couldn’t imagine a future without them. They were finally mine.
