Then he was kissing me, his hands cupping my jaw.

I touched his wrists when he pulled back. “Are you happy?”

His eyes were shining with unshed tears. “You’re everything I’ve ever wanted. You’re pregnant, and you’re both moving in with me.”

“Rocky isn’t enough for you anymore?” I knew he’d sworn off commitment, but I was ecstatic he’d gone back on his word for us.

“He pales in comparison to you, but I have everything I’ve ever wanted. You. Love. A family.”

I held a finger up. “I have one more thing.”

“This is already the best birthday I’ve ever had,” he said as I led him to my bedroom. On my dresser, I’d left an envelope. I handed it to him. “This is for you.”

He looked from the blank envelope to me. “I don’t need anything else.”

“I know,” I said softly. “But I want to give you this.” It was hard to find the perfect gift. He was a man who could build anything he wanted for his house. He had a truck, a dog, and the perfect house. What could I get him that would be fun and exciting for all of us?

He opened the flap and pulled out the tickets. “Hawaii?”

“I thought we could go before the baby was born. I want to travel, and I want to see everything with you.”

He pulled me in for a hug. “I’d love that.”

“If you don’t like the destination, we could change it for something else.”

“This is perfect, and Delaney’s been talking about it.”

His forehead touched mine. “I want to make love to you.”

“We can’t. Your party.” I wanted the same thing. I wanted to feel close to him in every way, but we had guests.

“They can wait,” Mac said softly.

I shook my head as I led him back outside. “Nope. I planned all of this for you, and you’re going to enjoy it. We have all night and the rest of our lives to make love.”

“I’m holding you to that,” he promised as he kissed me again.

We talked to our friends and family, danced, and ate. I saw more evenings like this in our future but at our house, Sam’s, and his parents’. Maybe even Tyler’s now that he was looking for property to build on.

I’d moved to Telluride for a fresh start, thinking I’d never get married again. It was almost as if he was meant for me all along. I couldn’t escape his love. It was too pure and encompassing.

I was right where I was supposed to be with the love of my life.

The next morning,I got up early with Delaney to make her breakfast. When she was finished eating the tiny pancakes she insisted I make, I said, “I have something to show you.”

Delaney’s eyes lit up with excitement.

I ushered her to the couch where I got out the ring I’d bought for Natalie soon after we’d talked about our future. “I want to ask your mother to marry me, but I need to ask a more important question first.”

“What?” Delaney’s eyes were wide with anticipation.

I pulled out a second box. This one was a necklace with a diamond ring on it, smaller diamonds circling the band. “Will you be part of my family, Delaney? Because I love you and your mother. I’d never marry your mother without your okay.”

“Yes,” she said simply.
