“You’re going to have to learn how to respect other people’s time, Farrah. I don’t care what part in our lives you’re going to play now.” Another man, sitting on the side of the room with his legs crossed over each other blurted out.

I turned to him, and my anxiety rose a few more notches. The Valium usually did a great job at keeping me even for the night but there was just too much going on and not enough I understood.

“What are you doing here?” I asked, surprising myself.

“Don’t worry, I’m just here to make sure everything goes according to plan.” He smirked at me but the gesture didn’t reach his eyes. They stayed hard and cold.

“Should we get this started?” A man in a long robe asked. He must be the one putting on the show for me and my date.

“Absolutely.” I said with a large smile on my face.

The beautiful man in front of me scoffs before he turned away. He may be gorgeous but it doesn’t seem like he cares for Farrah too much. I hate to be the one to let her know that he’s not really that into her. She’s always had people eating out the palm of her hand, this man doesn’t seem to be the same way.

“Ma’am if you’d sign the paperwork please, we can get this underway.” The man in the robe in front of me said as he directed my attention to a few sheets of paper on the table. Already flipped to the final page in the packet, the older robed gentleman handed me a pen and gestured to the space highlighted for me to sign.

With only a slight hesitation I picked up the pen ready to sign. I was sure this was the release form for the game that we were playing but I wanted to be sure. My fingers thumbed through the pages trying to find the first one.

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me? You read through this already. If you are so set on wasting our time why in the hell did you even agree to this in the first place? I don’t have time to waste with you.” My date snapped out at me and my jaw dropped open in disbelief.

“How dare you talk to me like that?” I snapped back at him.

“I’ll talk to you however I damn well please. Now if you’re through stalling for time, I’d like to get this forsaken night over with, I’m sure you agree.” His eyes hardened like onyx stone. He’s absolutely right about that. I didn’t want to be in his company any longer than I had to.

“Whatever. Talk about a bad impression.” I muttered under my breath and all three of the men in the room turned to look at me. I gulped down my nerves and quickly signed the contract, grateful that Farrah and my signatures look somewhat similar.

Quickly once I’d finished signing the papers, the man that was sitting in the corner walked over and picked up the paperwork. Sliding it into a folder, he secured it under his arm while he stared at my date and myself.

“You look a little piqued, maybe a drink to calm you down?” My date offered me a glass of champagne which I quickly downed. Too quick. I grabbed one more off the table and downed that one too. Even in my semi drug induced state I knew that was a bad idea. Drinking while on Valium for me only prolonged the effects of the drug.

My head swam and the room swayed back and forth harder. I tried to focus on what was going on, tried to pay attention to the story the man in the robe was telling but I couldn’t catch all the words. It sounded like he was talking about marriage. Probably the set up for when the actors came out. At this rate I wouldn’t know what the hell was going on.

A few minutes into the man’s speech I found him staring at me. He was waiting for something but I wasn’t sure what he’d asked me.

“I’m sorry? What?”

“I asked if you are a willing and able participant in this union?”

“Oh, yes.” I replied quickly.

Wait… union? What did he mean by union?

I squeezed my eyes shut for a second fighting against the haze in my mind to figure out what the man had been saying.

He repeated a flurry of words to my date and he agreed as well. I guess whatever it was that we’d agreed too couldn’t be that bad if he said yes so quickly.

I shrugged and turned for another flute of champagne on the table behind me. I brought it to my lips at the very same time I heard the robbed man finish his speech.

“By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride.”

My date yanked me closer to him and with absolutely no warmth to his touch he pressed his closed lips to mine before he snatched them back.

What the hell did I just hear? This has to be part of the show. Right?

What I thought was by far the strangest day of my life became much more mind boggling when my date leaned down, grabbed the back of my thighs and threw me over his shoulder.

Fear and confusion swirled in my mind but for the briefest moment all I could think about was how impressive this man’s strength was. He hefted me up like I weighed nothing to him. As we walked out of the large dining room, I looked up to see the devious smile of the man who had been sitting in the corner.

When he mouthed the words have fun, I knew I’d just signed up for far more than I’d bargained for.
