“Oh it is, is it? Just take what you like, eh?” Delaney was quickly becoming love drunk as the foreplay heightened. She threw her arms around his neck and pulled her legs up, wrapping them around his waist. Elliott carried her a few steps over to the bedroom and laid her down gently, finding his way in between her legs.

“Been taking your pill regularly?” A nod sufficed to answer his question about whether he should get a condom. And going slow was about to end. The tension building up flushed her skin and sweat beads were beginning to pop up across Elliott’s chest. His scent was musky mixed with a splash of high-end cologne she had given to him as a birthday gift. The first cologne he’d ever worn.

“Why did you introduce me as Anne?” she whispered.

Without skipping a beat, Elliott replied, “I don’t particularly like sharing my Delaney with anyone else.”

He took the silence in the moment as a good time to speed things up, going slow at first honoring her request, but the thrusting back and forth became faster and faster as she panted and growled his name.

“Yes baby,” was all he could mumble to keep himself in control. He reared back on his knees staying deep inside her but allowing him a better view of the woman laid out before him. “God, you’re gorgeous, I don’t deserve you.”

He slid his hand down her stomach and found her clit with his thumb. She moaned as he gave her what she wanted, deep inside her, and still pushing every button.

In Delaney’s mind, they made love that night. Several times. However, Elliott thought otherwise…

WALK OF SHAME

“Wonder if there’s something wrong with the internet?” Delaney said softly, checking her phone to find none of her social media apps wanting to load. Elliott had been awake for a bit but still curled up beside her not yet ready to get out of bed. It was Saturday after all, the sun barely creeping through the blinds.

He reached over and picked up his phone from the nightstand. Message after message notification scrolled through on the screen.

“Wi-Fi seems fine,” he said and scooted over to sit on the edge of the bed to open his eyes and actually see what was going on. The down comforter barely covered his nakedness. This would have been a great night to turn on the ringer, he thought to himself.

“Oh shit. It worked.” His exclamation offered nothing but confusion to Delaney as she tossed on a satin robe, heading to the office to restart the router.

“What worked?” she asked.

“It’s not the goddamn internet, Delaney,” he barked. “The networks. They’re all down.”

“What would cause an outage like that—” Delaney gulped, unsure if she wanted to hear his answer.

Elliott was out of bed and quickly pulling on his clothes. He tossed everything he had at her place in the duffel bag he’d brought over to get ready for the gala the afternoon before.

“Why are you packing your toothbrush that stays here—I might add?” she asked, hands on her hips. “And where are you going?”

She was hoping to talk about their relationship over coffee and waffles, but what she had feared was coming true. There really couldn’t be anything more—not with him rushing out like this, after a night of mind-blowing sex.

“Dye your hair. Figure out a way to prove you were here all night last night. Alone. And burn that dress,” he said, pointing at the red fabric draped over the back of a chair. “As far as the world is concerned, I went to the gala with my date Anne, Annie, last night. Not you.”

“What on earth is the meaning of all of this?”

“I did something crazy last night, took a shot in the dark, and now I’m going to be famous for it. Infamous is more like it, so I’d rather lay low for a while and see how this shakes out rather than immediately be pulled in for questioning and potentially go to prison.”

“What did you do, Elliott?” Delaney’s voice was shaky as worry came out with her words.

“The less you know, the better,” he said and zipped up the duffle, tucking in his shirt while also sliding on his shoes.

“Elliott Junior! What. Did. You. Do?” she growled at him, willing his answer before he stormed out on her. He knew she was serious when she pulled out the junior on him.

“That’s what I did,” he yelled, pointing to the cell phone in her hand.

“Whaaaat? How?” She knew the conversation was over, but she was so flabbergasted and unsure how to respond to him. Then she remembered the keychain he had dropped in the bowl at security, the one he denied having.

Elliott grabbed his jacket and keys and went over to give her a quick hug and kiss on the forehead.

“This is why there can’t ever be anything more between us. I’m not good for you, Delaney.” He squeezed her tight. “I love you, kid. But it’ll probably be a while before you hear from me again.”

“I’ll worry,” she admitted, scared and suddenly very lonely.
