“It’s legit, they want to take you back to Norfolk,” Doris informed Mad Dog as he moved toward me. “Says they have an unnamed witness that puts you in Norfolk ten years ago.”

“Who is the witness?” Mad Dog asked.

“They won’t risk witness tampering by telling you,” Doris scoffed as Mad Dog took the warrant from her.

“Who the fuck…” he questioned it again. He wanted to know who snitched and I was only too happy to answer.

“Me,” I answered calmly.

“You rat bitch,” an older biker I didn’t know lunged from the front bench as everyone seemed on edge. They were ready to kill me and I could feel their resentment grow. “After all we did for you.”

Mad Dog handed the warrant back to Doris, put his hands out as Kevin released his newly tightened grip on mine, and I arrested Mad Dog while Kevin glared at me.

One-minute Kevin was flirting and the next he looked at me like I just kicked over his bike. I knew what I did when I became a witness to Mad Dog’s alleged crimes. Both Shane and Harris thought I was insane to come and get him myself and not ask for protection, but as mad as the club might be, I knew no one would touch me. Not yet anyway, not while I had their leader in custody and a spotlight on the club.

The truth was this whole trip went the opposite of how I expected it to go, but one thing became very real. I needed to never cross paths with Kevin again. That man was like a fantasy to the women who got beneath the jeans, but when he had his clothes on, he was like the rest of the miscreants. The Kevin I once knew wanted to escape the club and start a new life, but this person before me was so deeply entwined in their life he would never get out without two bullets in the chest.

“I’ll come get you out boss,” Kevin showed his loyalty to the one man I hated more than anyone else. I read Douglas Spencer his Miranda rights and clicked the cuffs into place.

“Take your time, I want to spend some time with Mia.” Douglas answered as I moved him toward the waiting SUV, where Shane was still standing guard.

“I see you have everything under control.” Shane tried to hide his smile as I reached the back door of the SUV.

“I got him, didn’t I?”

“The real question is, what did it cost you?” Shane pried as I opened the door for Douglas to get inside.

“Just my pride so far… Taking Douglas into custody is like hitting a beehive with a bat. They will swarm their home, they will protect their leader, but I know enough to have a flamethrower waiting when they get there.”

“You have the weirdest analogies.”

I put my hand on Douglas’ head to push him into the car, but he pushed back. He tried to turn and look at me as I pulled my gun and put it to his temple.

“Get in the fucking car, dad.”

Karma

“When can I see him?” I demanded to know. We had been in a little town outside Norfolk for five days and Mia still had it where Mad Dog couldn’t see anyone except Doris. I spent my days in the waiting room at the jail and my evenings doing whatever it took to keep Doris sober.

“What’s your name?” The officer asked without even looking at me. “Who are you here to see?”

“His name is Kevin Waters, but his alias is K, and Karma,” Mia spoke as she walked out the door of the back room.

“You always loved to call out my name,” I sarcastically spoke as she narrowed her eyes at me.

“I will give you five minutes with him, but he had to be taken to his cell to eat, so you will have to wait in the room with me.

I nodded and followed her back into an interrogation room. I walked inside, and realized Dog wasn’t coming, because the file on the silver table was mine. The photos on the table were of me. She was going to try and go up against me one on one.

This should be fun.

“Have a seat,” she offered politely, and I sat down. “For the record, can you tell me your name,” and so it began. I never told anyone my name was Kevin anymore. Life let me earn my new name, so I used what I gained.

“You know they call me Karma,” my tone was sharp. I cracked my tattooed knuckles in front of her as I watched her fidget with a pen. Seeing my colorful knuckles gripping her olive thighs used to make her plead with me. I remembered her saying something about the cascading hues on her pale flesh made her want to be filled with color. It made her want me to keep my hands up her skirt.

She crossed her legs and uncrossed them. I was almost positive we were thinking of the same thing. I was making her nervous, and I was going to enjoy making her suffer.

“Mr. Waters,” she started to speak as I reached over and took the pen she was toying with.
