“Perhaps. But I will not give you another chance to try. I won’t allow you to believe you’re in control, because you’re not.”

I smiled wickedly. “Feeling threatened by a female?” I mocked.

He stared at me, clenching his jaw. Goddess, I enjoyed taunting him. His chuckle was dark and menacing. “You’re no threat to anyone, most of all, me. You’re a servant from Frentani, the most pathetic realm in our world, and you smell.”

“What do you mean?” I turned to the two guards, who were binding my wrists behind my back with leather straps. This fucking realm and their leather. “Do you know what he smoked, ’cause I want some.” I gave them the sweetest smile. Said smile morphing into a wince when one of them pulled me up by my hair, bowing his head to growl in my face with abhorrent breath.

“Hey, asshole, is that really necessary?” I hissed, my jaw clenching from the searing pain on my scalp.

But the pain faded, replaced by the scream that lodged in my throat when something whizzed above my head, followed by warm liquid splattering on my face. I watched in horror as the guard’s head rolled off his shoulders, landing on the floor with a thud. His now dead hand slid off my hair as his body joined his head on the floor.

My heart hammered, and every inch of my body trembled with fear and shock as I slowly turned to face the killer. The demon stood, back straight and sword in hand, droplets of blood still dripping from the sharp metal.

Taking out the handkerchief from his jacket pocket, he wiped his blade like cutting people’s heads off was a daily occurrence for him. He looked at the other guard, who had gone pale and sweaty. “You treat her like that, and you will also meet the end of my sword.”

I stared at him, dumbfounded, and then threw my head back and laughed, partly from nerves and partly because he was the most ridiculous male I’d ever met. He was a villain, a bad guy who kidnapped me, hit me, knocked me out, and put me in a dungeon. But now, he was indignant when his guard—whom he sent to restrain me—did it roughly?

When my laughter waned, I looked back over at him. He wasn’t amused, but said nothing. Instead, he walked up to me, grabbed me by the back of the neck, and pushed me out of the cell. I tried to resist, which was hard to do with my wrists bound. My spine stiffened when I felt the heat of his breath on my ear. “I’m the only one who gets to touch you.”

Oh.

Sun melt me.

Pushing back my shoulders, I pretended his words didn’t affect me. “Where are you taking me?”

“Like I said, you’re not in control.”

Dick.

“Where are you taking me and I’m not asking you again, so spill it.”

His velvety laugh hung above my head, sending chills down my spine. I loved his voice. He also smelled fantastic. I didn’t know why I found anything pleasant about him. It pissed me off. He was a demon, and I hated him. And yet, a part of me was drawn to him, and this was a disturbing notion.

When we approached the end of the corridor, I saw the exit I’d escaped through, but instead of heading that way, we turned right, making our way down another hallway.

The asshole’s steps halted in front of a set of large double doors, which the guard opened for us to pass through. We walked a few more minutes, and I took in the place, in awe of its opulence. Cathedral ceilings and a hallway wide enough to be a house. There was a line of doors on either side and yet, besides us, the dwelling seemed deserted.

“What is this place?”

The dickhead ignored me, and the heat of his large hand made my neck sweat. I stopped, planting my feet and wishing I could cross my arms. “I’m not walking until you tell me where we are,” I growled.

He stared down at me, fury in his gaze. And heat. Like he enjoyed my defiance. “Very well.” That’s all he said before bending over, gripping the back of my knees, and swinging me over his shoulder. My stomach whooped, my heart skipped a beat, and, for some insane reason, a tingle coursed between my thighs.

“Ugh, put me down, asshole!”

Not being able to move my arms pissed me off, and I had no choice but to focus on keeping them glued behind my back so they wouldn’t swing down and dislocate my shoulders.

A hard smack on my ass made me yelp in surprise, and I sucked in a breath. It didn’t hurt, but it shocked me. “Keep quiet.”

“Did you just spank me?”

“Yes, and I’ll do it again unless you stay quiet, and this time, I’ll make sure to remove every obstacle between your pretty little ass and my hand. Got it?”

“I hate you.”

“Splendid.”

Sun melt me, I wouldn’t rest until I killed him.
