“Fuck off,” Leo grunted before shoving past him and disappearing in a flash.

“Leo isn’t like August, Atticus. You can’t bully him into doing what you want. He’s…gentle. Tender.”

Atticus scoffed. “That man isn’t gentle. I bet if he stopped being so terrified of the truth, he’d be the most ruthless out of all of us. He just needs some guidance.”

I arched a brow. “And are you going to be the one to guide him?”

He bowed before grabbing the plate of pancakes. “If it’s what my queen wishes.” He then plopped down at the table and started eating.

I stared after Leo, and my stomach began to churn. Should I go after him? Was I making this worse? I sat down at the table and Atticus pushed the plate of pancakes in front of me before giving me a searching look. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” I grabbed a pancake, but I wasn’t hungry.

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah.”

He watched me, but I pretended not to notice. I tried to swallow my food, but it tasted like cardboard.

Atticus sighed. “Go after him, Little Monster.”

“Are you sure? I know I was with August last night and—”

“And I stroked myself to the sound of your screams,” he said, cutting me off.

My mouth popped open. Atticus seemed so…calm about this. It was almost too good to be true. “Are you sure?” I asked for the second time.

“Little Monster, when I need you, I’ll demand your time. I’ll claim your cunt. I’ll spread you wide on this kitchen table and lick you clean. I’m not afraid to steal whatever time I need, so you don’t need to worry about my feelings on the matter. I’ll make sure I get whatever we both need. Go. To. Him.”

I leaned across the table to kiss him, then stood up.

It was time to find Leo.

I found him sitting on the couch, his arms spread out across the back. His eyes were closed, but I could see the tension in his shoulders.

I hesitated, unsure of what to say or do. “Hey,” I said softly. He opened his eyes but didn’t move. “Can we talk?”

He huffed a laugh and shook his head. “I don’t know.” He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “Atticus seems to think he knows everything about me. Why don’t you talk to him?”

I bit my bottom lip. “It seems he struck a nerve.”

Leo’s face twisted as he scowled back. “He didn’t strike a nerve. I’m annoyed. That’s it.” I didn’t believe him.

“What are you afraid of?” My voice wavered and my heart sank as I watched Leo’s shoulders slump.

“You,” he said.

“Me?” I asked, shocked.

Leo scrubbed his face with his hands. “Yes. You. You hit all the buttons, Christine. You make me feel things I shouldn’t. I shouldn’t like you.”

“Why?”

He ran his hand through his long blond hair. “My dad left my mom, you know. When I was young. She was pregnant with my sister. He’d always been a mean bastard but hid behind his perfect middle-class family and a smile. Would mentally abuse her. Called her fat. Said she was worthless. Found a hot, young flight attendant and just forgot about his family.”

I swallowed. “That must’ve been hard.” I knew his father wasn’t in the picture, but wasn’t aware of the specifics.

“Yeah. It was. My mom fell into a deep depression and lost herself. I felt responsible for her. For my sister. We had no money and I had to join the guard to send them my paychecks.”
