The terse command had Roni glancing at me.

“Did you two fight?” she asked.

“No. I’m guessing he heard you twist my words into that not-what-I-suggested idea, and he’s mad that his matchmaking might be falling apart.”

“Ha!” she barked, facing Molev. “Your skills at matching suck. Brog was supposed to jump on me. Instead, he’s running away. Andie’s right. I need to play the field first.”

“Not what I said,” I stressed, standing.

She shrugged again. “I was promised a lay when I got here.” She looked at the fey behind Molev. “Do you want to have some mind-blowing sex in the name of science?”

Ben’s gaze shifted to Katie.

“Oh,” Roni said. “You’re hers?”

“Yes,” he said at the same time Katie emphatically said, “No!”

I went to Molev and crossed my arms. “No scowling at me for this one. You know Roni. She does what she wants. Changing her mind isn’t my fault. If Brog wants to keep her, he knows what he has to do.”

Molev slowly dipped his head. “He does,” he agreed.

He held out his hand, and I threaded my fingers through his.

“Good luck, ladies,” I called. “I’m here if you need me.”

“Wait,” Katie yelled.

I didn’t get a chance to wait for her. Molev tugged me into his arms and left with me.

“Did you talk to Ben?” I asked.

“I did.”

“Did you explain she needs more time because she’s grieving for Ted?”

He grunted.

“You know the only thing I was trying to dissuade Roni from was raping Brog in his sleep, right?”

He sighed. “I know. Brog knows that Roni plans to have sex and leave him. He is trying to win her heart.”

“If he wants to do that, he needs to impress the hell out of her. Feats of strength. Show her something only he can give her.”

Molev grunted again.

“So where are we going?” I asked.

“Home. I’ve spoken to Drav, and he sent the fey needed to Tenacity and Unity and the rest to retrieve the supplies we’ll need. It will take them a few hours to return. I will help my brothers after that.”

Understanding what he intended, I internally cringed at the same time my pulse sped in anticipation.

“I will take care,” he said, kissing my temple tenderly.

The screechof metal followed by a crash pulled me from my sleep. I rolled over and felt the opposite side of the bed. Molev’s place wasn’t even warm. Sighing, I debated between going back to sleep and checking the time.

I checked the time.
