“What?” I croaked.

The movement between my legs stilled, and the slight pressure on my throat increased.

“Mya explained marriage. It is a promise two people make to spend the rest of their lives with each other. Why does that promise scare you, Andie?”

“It doesn’t. I just—”

He flipped me over on the mattress, his arm underneath me as he pinned me with his weight.

“I love the way you think. But sometimes you overthink things,” he said, nipping my shoulders as he moved his fingers between my legs.

“Do you like this?” he asked.

I nodded hesitantly, the echo of his proposal still bouncing around in my head.

“Do you like when I care for you?” he asked.

“Yes.”

He kissed my back and rested more of his torso on me. The heat of his skin and the feel of his hard length felt too good to ignore.

“Other than carrying you over my shoulder, what have I done that you have not liked?”

“I’ve liked it all,” I admitted.

He stroked deep.

“Then imagine how I will feel inside of you.” He arched into my ass as he continued to use his fingers to reignite the fire he’d briefly doused. “Are you thinking about it?”

How could I not?

I moaned and turned my head. He nipped the back of my neck.

“You are mine, Andie. Rings and words won’t change what I already know. Accept it before I lose patience.”

He twisted his fingers and pressed just right inside of me, setting off an explosion.

His weight lifted off me.

Panting and dazed from the ordeal, it took a moment to register that he wasn’t touching me any longer. I rolled to my back and managed to lift my head to look for him. The room was empty.

When he didn’t return by the time I caught my breath, I went to look for him. Instead of finding him, I found my clothes neatly folded on the back of the couch.

He had never left me before. Not like that.

Biting my lip, I dressed and returned to the house. He wasn’t waiting for me there either. Understanding that I’d upset him, I decided he probably needed some time and went to bed alone.

Which was exactly how I woke the next morning.

Alone and worried.

“What did you do?” Roni asked when I emerged from the bedroom to find everyone else working together to make breakfast. Something Molev usually did for us.

“I don’t know what you mean,” I said.

“Do not play stupid with me,” Roni said. “You went to the hookup house, came back alone, and he’s still not here.”

That had everyone’s attention.
