“I stopped caring when I shot Tamra,” Sid said bluntly.“I know Molev warned Patrick to order an airlift.”

“Mistakes were made,” I said.“On all sides. We need to stop making them.”

“Do you think removing the surveillance is a mistake?”Sid asked.

“No.But I think removing them will cause more mistrust.”I looked at Molev.“They’re obviously curious about you. They’ve heard what you can do from Patrick, but they haven’t seen it for themselves. You need to find a way to start building trust on your terms like you did with us.”

He crossed his arms in that stubborn way of his as his pensive gaze swept over us.

“Come with me.”That’s all he said before he turned and started for the door.

Roland shrugged and trailed after him.The rest of us hurried to do the same. When we left, the soldiers were right there, following us on foot.So was the drone.

Molev stuck to the path we’d taken earlier, and when we reached a table near the playground, he stopped and sat.The soldiers hung back as Molev put his elbow on the table and gestured to Roni. Her eyes lit with understanding.

“Hell yes,” she said. She sat down opposite Molev but didn’t take his hand.“Katie and Andie, get in here.”

I moved around the table, standing by his shoulder, thinking I’d be able to use my body weight to push his arm over. When I wrapped my hands around his forearm, his gaze flicked to mine.

“If we do something that hurts, you’ll tell us, right?”I asked.

The corners of his mouth twitched.“You won’t hurt me.”

“Challenge accepted,” Roni said.“Go!”

Katie started pulling, Roni started muscling him, and I threw my weight against Molev’s forearm.I tried not to pay attention to the feel of his warm skin under my hands and put my effort into moving him. Both were impossible, though.Pressed against him, my face was close to his, reminding me of our almost kiss.

I was still curious about what it would be like.More than that, I was interested in finding out.And that was a problem.I couldn’t afford the distraction. Not now, when I was so close to getting Zion the ticket he needed.

Roni grunted and then started swearing under her breath as she strained harder.

“I give,” I said, acknowledging what Roni never would.“We’re not budging him.”

When I released Molev, his leg brushed against mine. But he didn’t look at me.Probably a good thing since the drone was still flying overhead.

Roni got up and gave the soldiers a pointed look.No one could antagonize with just a glance like she could.

“Man up and give it a try,” she said.

The drone sank lower and drifted closer.

“Come.Your people wish to see my strength,” Molev said.“I will take care not to harm you.”

“No weapons and no dirty tricks,” I warned.“He won’t tolerate either. But if you want to see if you can beat him, step up.”

One of the soldiers did.Molev toyed with him.I could see that hint of a smirk on his face as he gave the guy an inch, only to slam his hand down a second later.

“I’d suggest all three of you,” I said when the guy swore.

They tried that, and then Roland, Brandon, and Steve got in on it.

Sid laughed and shook his head as they piled on top of each other, grunting and groaning.

“It was a solid effort,” Molev said when they finally gave up.“Even my brothers struggle to beat me.”

“How many of them does it take to win?”one of the soldiers asked.

“We arm wrestle one-on-one,” Molev said, standing.
