“Ah.”

Lightning fast, he reached out and tugged me forward so I stood between his spread legs.He tipped his head only a little to look up at me.

“You have no need for fear.I will never abandon you, Andie.”

His expression hinted that he wanted me to promise the same thing. But I couldn’t.I’d meant what I’d said.I didn’t know him well enough yet to understand what my place would be in his life. But more than that, I just wasn’t sure of anything yet.I struggled to envision a future at all, never mind one with him.

“It wasn’t the thought of you leaving without me,” I said honestly.“It was the thought of you leaving before they give us what they promised us.

“My nephew is only three years old.The mountains are keeping most of the infected and the hounds to the east. But it’s only a matter of time before they breach the barriers.I was promised a ticket to an island sanctuary, a place the infected and hounds can’t reach.I’m afraid that if you leave, they won’t give me that ticket, and my nephew will die here.”

Molev reached up and trailed his fingers down my throat. As it had last time, the touch set my pulse racing.Even if I wasn’t sure about any type of future for us, I had no doubts about my attraction to him.

I’d witnessed his power time and again. His savagery.Seeing it and feeling his hand on my skin sparked something inside of me, a fear-driven anticipation.I wanted to feel his hand resting at the base of my throat and know that, for me, he would be gentle. For me, he would be whatever I needed.

Struggling to focus on our conversation rather than my desire, I licked my lips and looked away from his intense gaze.

“I think Sid’s right, and not only because I’m thinking of my nephew.By waiting to see if they follow through, we’ll be able to gauge their intent with you.”

His fingers stroked down my throat again.

“Your eyes say you hunger for me as I hunger for you even when your lips remain silent. You tempt me to break the rules, Andie.”His fingers slid alongside my neck and dug into the hair at the base of my skull. They tightened on the strands, pulling slightly so my head tipped back. That subtle assertion of dominance sent flames of need licking through my body.

My lips parted.

He stood, towering over me as his gaze locked on my mouth. The raw hunger in his expression goaded me.I wanted that.I wanted him.

“But I am not a human man, Andie,” he said, breaking into my thoughts.“I will not take what is not freely given.”

“What are you saying?”I asked breathlessly.

“When you want my lips on yours, you will need to tell me.Do you understand?”

I couldn’t nod.He was holding my hair too tight.

“Do you understand?”he repeated.

“Yes.”

His gaze caressed my face.“Do you like this, Andie?Do you like when I hold you so you cannot move?”

I closed my eyes, debating the wisdom of how I should answer him.I decided on the truth.

“I do like this, but it makes me question my sanity.”

“Explain,” he commanded before I felt the fingers of his free hand stroking my skin.

“Considering your strength, I shouldn’t be encouraging any form of dominance.Too much force could hurt me.”

His gaze flicked from my face to my throat, and he frowned. His hold immediately began to loosen.

“Do you fear I will hurt you?”

I caught one of his braids and firmly applied pressure until he bent toward me.I could see the way his pupils dilated because of what I was doing.

“I’m exerting dominance.Are you afraid?”

His lips curled into a wickedly hungry smile.
