“Then why not try a drop of my blood? I believe it’s only to be expected,” I said and removed the bloody tissue from my finger.

“You trust me to stop on time?” Gabriel asked. “I might devour you whole.

Chapter 12

"As long as I stay alive afterward, you can even bite me,” I said, overly confident for the first time in my life.

“Are you sure you want this?”He took a step closer.

“I’m sorry, but what self-proclaimed Dracula fan never dreamed of being bitten at least once?”

“And you want to experience that dream firsthand.”

“Or neck,” I said. “You can choose the point of contact.”

“Very well,” he said. “But we’ll stay at arm’s length. I could drain you too fast from the neck.”

My heart began beating faster at the sound of his words, which I assumed was why Gabriel’s nostrils flared. He walked slowly, similar to how a predator would attack his prey, and took my hand palm up. Gabriel brought my bloody finger to his lips and licked it in the most sensual way. Then he gave it a peck and looked at me. When I gazed into his eyes, the previous dark color changed to pure silver, and slowly I could see his beast emerging. In his transformed state, Gabriel somewhat resembled thestrigoii, except I could still distinguish his features. Though he quickly reverted to his humanly state, probably not to scare me, leaving only his long predatory fangs. I closed my eyes, expecting to feel his fangs poke through my skin, but, to my surprise, he didn’t hurry to bite me. Oh, no. He began kissing each finger and palm and slowly transitioned to my wrist. Gabriel would lick the designated area, and once I thought he would bite, he would stop and return to kissing my fingers. Apparently, Gabriel was the type of predator who liked to play with his food. The more you know.

Gabriel continued to affectionally bite, lick, and kiss all the extremities of my hand, and when I least expected, his fangs pierced my wrist. The first few seconds, it hurt, but then the area felt numb, and a new curious feeling appeared. He watched me like a hawk the entire time he fed on me. The process took about ten seconds, though it felt much longer. Once he released me, he licked the two remaining beads, which stopped the bleeding. And lastly, he licked his lips while savoring the taste of my blood.

I was curious if I would feel dizzy or something, but no, I harbored a fuzzy, warm feeling inside. Like all was good and everything will be okay. Then I looked at Gabriel, and if before he was the most handsome man in the world, now he was the most handsome man in the universe. How did I not notice this before?

“You are so beautiful,” I said and threw myself at him. “I want to kiss you day and night. And maybe something more. And…Hey, why are you removing my arms from your neck?” I asked.

“Few Dracula fans know this, but a vampire’s bite holds a special type of venom that can entrance humans and make them more obedient, so we could feed on them for longer. Some might call it evolution. I call it the fastest way to wipe out the largest civilization on the planet. That is why there are laws in place that forbid vampires to feed on one human more than once.”

“You are so cute when you talk so seriously. Come on, let me give you a smooch.” I lunged at him.

“As usual, your humanness is adorable, but it is the result of my venom,” he said.

“You have the sweetest venom. Why don’t you try my neck,” I said and moved my hair to the other side for better access.

For a moment, I thought Gabriel considered my proposal when he pushed me onto the bed and lay next to me. “If the venom has entered your system at least once, you will be able to fight the entrancement better next time. Though I hope you’ll not have to experience it again. But for now, it is better to sleep.”

He looked at me with piercing, silver eyes. “Go to sleep, my love,” he said.

“Don’t tell me you’re using your hypnosis skills on me,” I said.

“I don’t need to,” he said.

“Well, I refuse to succumb to your entrancem––”

And just like that, sleep took over me.

I woke up with a terrible headache. It could’ve been the champagne, but I suspected vampire venom had something to do with it. I heard voices coming from the other room. Feeling weak, I rose from the bed and tried to find the door handle. Before I could reach it, the door flung open. It was Gabriel. “You’re awake, Milady,” he said with genuine enthusiasm.

Maybe my initiation into vampire bites had him worried.

“How is your wrist?” Gabriel asked. “I made sure to take care of it after you fell asleep.”

I looked at my wrist and realized it was bandaged. Living with vampires erased the line between reality and imagination.

“Come,” Gabriel said. “We must go. The car is waiting.”

“We already landed?” I asked.
