“For several hours now,” Gabriel said.

“And you didn’t wake me up?”

“Milady’s needs are always superior to anything else.”

“But not to this extent. Where are we going?” I asked, and we exited the plane.

“First, out for dinner and then to a hotel,” he said, turning to give me a hand as we descended the stairs.

The weather in Spokane was amazing. I was finally home and greeted by the sun’s rays.

“I want to see my parents,” I said.

“I thought you would like to rest first.”

“I hadn’t seen my parents in over two years. Plus, I slept like a hamster for the entire trip. I believe I can handle the cursed jet lag.”

He put on his fancy sunglasses, smiled, and said, “Milady’s wish is my command.”

We hopped in the limo and were off into the city.

“We have a change of plans, Roger,” Gabriel said. “Milady wishes to visit her parents now.”

“Yes, Your Majesty,” the limo driver said.

“I need to give you my address,” I said to Roger.

“There is no need. He already knows your address,” Gabriel said.

“How do you know my address?” I asked.

“I’ve had people watch over you for years before you time-traveled,” Gabriel said.

“What? It kinda feels like stalking,” I said.

“Do not fret, Milady. It was done from afar, and only in cases where your choices risked leading your life’s trajectory the wrong way. I feared you might get into an accident or, I don’t know, fall off the stairs.”

“And did they ever intervein in any way?”

“Only with a few of your suitors who didn’t deserve even a speck of your attention,” he said.

“So all the guys who ghosted me before were because of your men?”

“Not all. Some did it of their own volition.” Gabriel said in all seriousness.

“You could’ve lied a bit on this one, you know,” I said dejectedly and he chuckled. “What about Elijah? Did you plan to interfere then or…?”

Gabriel paused and looked down guiltily.

I continued, “You couldn’t interfere because he was the reason why I decided to travel to Romania. And if I didn’t travel to Romania, I wouldn’t have time-traveled, and we wouldn’t have met.”

He stayed silent.

“Fate is a pesky thing, huh?” I said. “Don’t beat yourself up for not being able to save me. I’ve gained much more from that horrible situation than I ever expected.” I grasped his hand.

He looked at me with pained eyes. “In my eyes, his role started and ended when he tried to force himself on you. But if you wish, it is not too late to…”

“No, no. I would never let you lower yourself to his level. Plus, we risk sealing my fate to the scumbag and that I won’t have.”
