“Do you want a wedding at the beach?” Gabriel smiled.

“I guess. I never thought about it, but the beach would be a great option,” I said.

“Do you want to have the wedding on the beaches of your own private island?”

“My island?”

“Yes, the island I bought is called Petra’s Island.”

“What? You named an island after me?”

“See, I was considerate enough not to mention it to your parents.” Gabriel smiled.

“How nice of you,” I said sarcastically.

“Look from my perspective. There were two options. Either you would’ve been in charge of planning the wedding or me. Now imagine the two things you’ll have to worry about at your wedding will be which dress to pick and what flavor the cake to eat. Does it sound like something you could work with?”

“What about all my relatives? Mei? How will they be able to come to the wedding?”

“There’s enough space in my planes for everyone if they agree to come.” Gabriel took my hand. “What do you say? Are you willing to do things my way?”

“I guess…” I paused. “Thank you.”

“For what?”

“I think I sounded ungrateful there for a moment,” I said.

“No such thing. Your concerns were valid. Good thing we have an eternity to practice.”

“When you say eternity, you mean I’ll eventually become a vampire, too, right?” I asked.

“I haven’t turned anyone without their consent, and you’ll have to give me yours as well. Plus, there’s no rush. We have plenty of time as long as you stay close to me so I can protect you.”

“What about your second-in-command, Troy? Did he also consent to being turned?”

“Of course.”

“He looks like such a strong and self-assured guy. Why did he feel the need to become a vampire?” I asked.

“You’d be surprised at the reasons why people choose to become vampires. I met Troy in France in 1950 at a boxing match where he would knock out all his adversaries with one left hook. We started talking afterward, and to my surprise, he told me he knew who I was. As it turns out, Troy had fallen in love with a vampire. She was a Once Diluted, thus he asked me to turn him so they could be of the same power. After I turned him, he displayed an array of qualities I searched in a second-in-command. Since then, he has never once betrayed me, unlike the woman he decided to turn for,” Gabriel said.

“Where is Troy now?”

“Since I have my hands full with a certain Milady, he took over some of the business aspects.”

“I assumed, as a second-in-command, he would join us everywhere to guarantee your protection,” I said.

“Why would the strongest being in The Other Realm need protection?”

“I don’t know. Fromstrigoiigone rogue or swarms of teenage vampire fangirls. It’s hard to imagine you not having a few lurking around.”

“Firstly, roguestrigoiwould be annihilated at the first wrong move, and secondly, it is illegal to turn anyone younger than eighteen. The person who turned them will be executed.”

“What about children vampires?”

“Unfortunately, from the few cases we gathered, young minds don’t cope well with becoming a predator with extreme powers,” Gabriel said somberly.

“You kill them?”
