“Would you like a few desserts with your coffee?” Gabriel approached the table.

“Yes, please,” I said.

“Anything with chocolate, I assume?” Gabriel asked.

I nodded. Mei looked at me and Gabriel several times.

“Mei, would you like something as well?” Gabriel asked.

“No, thank you,” she said.

After Gabriel left, Mei turned to me and said, “You’re head over heels in love with him, and he’s right there with you.”

“Now you believe he’s not a con artist?” I asked.

“I still find it odd, but genuine emotion is impossible to mimic. So you’re telling me this is real?”

I nodded. Mei squealed so loud that a few customers almost dropped their cups. “Did you already decide on a wedding date?”

I nodded. Mei prepared her vocal cords for another squeal, but I stopped it at its root by grabbing her hand.

“When?” she asked.

“Well, you know. Gabriel wants us to be together sooner rather than later. So… We’re thinking of having our wedding on his private island. Next week.”

“Oh, so he’s planning on murdering us on his private island during the wedding. He’s into medieval bloody weddings?” Mei asked.

“No, no. Goodness, no. I know how it sounds, but it is real.”

“Hey, I might be younger than you, but I still think this is…”

“Who said medieval bloody weddings?” Gabriel asked as he placed my cup in front of me.

“I’m explaining here to your fiancée that a wedding on a private island after two weeks of dating is a red flag. A bloody red flag.”

“I do realize, from an outwardly perspective, it might seem like a rash decision, but Petra and I have known each other for some time. For many, winning the lottery seems like an unrealistic dream until it happens. The same with me. I also felt I’ll never find the one I would love forever until Petra appeared in my life.”

“In this day and age, sweet words don’t do much. We’re not some damsels in distress that need to be saved by love,” Mei said.

“Now I see the commonalities of your friendship,” Gabriel said.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Mei asked, rolling up her sleeves.

“Only that I’m glad Petra has been lucky enough to find a true friend in her life,” Gabriel said.

Mei was prepared to punch Gabriel, but then his words stumped her.

“Your worries are reasonable and should be addressed. We can answer as many questions as you deem necessary, and hopefully, it could grant some peace of mind. Also, we would be honored if you could join us at the wedding. And given the fast pace of our decisions, you could join Petra with her dress shopping and pick one for yourself, all expenses paid,” Gabriel said.

“What do you do for a living, Mr. Gabriel?” Mei asked skeptically.

“My last name is Stoica, and I own a company that buys and sells antique art,” Gabriel said.

“Oh, my parents are also into the art business,” Mei said.

“What do your parents do?” Gabriel asked.

“They’re glass blowers. Their style revolves around traditional Chinese motifs, but their range doesn’t stop there. They have their own gallery down in Oregon,” Mei said.
