“Don’t tell me you like Troy,” I whispered.

“Is it that obvious?” Mei asked.

“He’s so straight-laced, I’m not sure he can bend,” I whispered. “Also, he recently lost…”

Mei dropped her bag and didn’t hurry to pick it up until Troy did it for her. She thanked him, and we continued our walk. Troy preferred to walk behind us.

“I don’t know. He bends pretty well to me.” Mei’s eyes looked too hungry for her own good.

We walked for several minutes when I said, “I understand now. You like him because he’s a vampire.”

“He’s a vampire?” Mei yelped.

“Shhh, why don’t you notify the authorities, will you?” I whisper-yelled. “Do you think Gabriel would have a human as a second-in-command? Of course, he’s a vampire.”

“Well, that makes things even better.” I could see Mei’s excitement rising at the corners of her mouth.

When I turned around, I noticed a light smile on Troy’s face. He heard everything. I forgot about his super-hearing abilities. “Troy, could you go ahead and order us some coffee?” I asked.

“Yes, Milady,” he said stoically though I could sense a tinge of disappointment in his tone.

I didn’t have time to question his reaction. I needed to bring some sense into Mei. “Maybe you should reconsider? He might not share the same opinion as you. Also, since when do you fall in love with someone the first time you see them?” I asked.

“Who said I’m in love? I simply like him more than some people.”

“You mean to say most people. I was surprised you decided to become my friend.”

“With you, it was easy. You’re like the best human I ever met.”

Now she began flattering me. The woman had no scruples. If she wanted something, no one would stop her. “Listen, you can fawn over him as much as you want, but I don’t want you to send him the wrong message. If it’s just for a fling and you’re looking to scratch an itch, maybe Gabriel’s second-in-command is not the best option.”

“Fine.” Mei conceded. “I’ll be clearer in my behavior.”

“Thank you,” I said, exhaling a deep sigh. Large disaster averted. Good thing I left Athena home with a nanny. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to deal with this mess.

We entered The Coffee Tree. The same coffee shop I visited the first time I traveled here. Inside, Troy awaited us with two cups of coffee, one Americano, and one latte. I took my cup and relished the warmth it spread around my fingers. I had already turned to take a seat when I heard a disappointed sigh coming from Mei.

“Is something wrong, Miss Mei? I mean, Mei?” asked Troy.

“Lattes are so bland. I wish there were a Starbucks here,” Mei said, pouting.

I wanted to tell her about the joys of trying new things, but then I remembered it was Mei we were talking about. “Maybe you would like some water?” I asked.

“Yeah. Water is always a good choice for me,” Mei said.

“There is a Starbucks on the other side of the town,” Troy said.

“Would you be able to buy me a coffee there?” Mei asked with big-doe eyes.

“It’s the least I can do for Milady’s guest,” Troy said.

“Wonderful. I’ll text you the order,” Mei said and started typing furiously.

“Didn’t you say it’s in the other part of the town? How are you going to––” Before I could finish my question, he was out of the coffee shop. Troy fussed so much over Mei that he forgot who the queen was around here. So much for my royal status.

“Does he have the power to go superfast?” Mei asked.

“As you can see,” I said.
