“Oh, my goodness, that’s a good skill to have in bed.” Mei clapped excitedly.

“Will you stop it,” I said.

“What? Can’t you be happy for your friend?”

“I thought you said he was only a fling.”

“I never said he was a fling. I’m actually pretty serious about him. I think we would be perfect together.”

“But how can you say so when you barely met him?”

“It’s an ability that picky people get. I’ve lived with my predilections my whole life. I’ve spent so much time figuring out exactly what I want and how I want it that when I see it, it clicks straight away. Troy’s personality works perfectly for me. You’ll see.”

After an incursion in a picky person’s life, I about lost any potential argument I had against their relationship. Except for one. “What if you’re wrong? He’s lost someone recently. I don’t know if he’s ready to move on.”

“I’ve never been wrong before, and from the looks of it, he’s ready.” Mei smiled, looking out the window. “Wouldn’t you want Troy to find someone who could make him happy?”

“It’s impossible to negotiate with you. Fine. Do whatever you want, but don’t come to me complaining when something doesn’t go your way.”

She squealed and hugged me so tight I almost lost my bearing. The woman couldn’t contain her elation. Then Troy returned.

“You’re so fast,” Mei said, batting her lashes in surprise. “It’s amazing.”

He handed her the coffee and waited patiently to see if Mei liked it.

Mei took a sip, and I could feel the absolute silence descending around her decision. Finally, she ended our torturous waiting and said, “It’s perfect.” Mei beamed a smile at Troy, and I realized I’d lost them both. Guess who suddenly became the third wheel?

Afterward, everything went smoothly for them. We went to the bakery close to the coffee shop, and I bought the same mini cakes as the first time. Mei and Troy chose each other’s saccharine presence. Then we went to the mall. For someone so picky, Mei didn’t have a problem buying a lot of clothes. She didn’t even question how she would fly them back to the US. Troy acted like a supportive boyfriend and carried an extensive number of shopping bags.

We planned to go to the old-timey restaurant, but Mei’s purchases didn’t fit into the schedule. No worries, chivalrous Troy found an answer for that too. He called someone from the castle, and in about ten minutes, two black cars arrived in the Mall’s parking lot. One went back to the castle with Mei’s shopping bags, and the other took us to Poiana Bra?ov.

As we walked toward the entrance of the restaurant, several times Mei pretended to fall, only for Troy to save her very seriously. I wasn’t sure if Troy knew of Mei’s ploy to seduce him, but I could see he enjoyed every minute of it. The man took my advice to live a little and ran with it. Talk about utter subordination.

Inside, I saw the same goats munching on hay, and I remembered how I missed my sweet friend Vincenta von Goat. Maybe Gabriel wouldn’t mind adopting one at the castle. Though it wouldn’t be the same, it would be something. We sat at the table, and I began looking through the menu. Mei and Troy preferred to look at one another. Once the server came and asked for our order. I went with my favorite Romanian dish, tripe soup. Mei couldn’t decide, but Troy asked what she usually preferred and recommended Romanian meat dumplings and cabbage rolls. Mei agreed, just like that. Maybe Troy entranced her. I had to find out. “Mei, are you sure about your choice?” I asked.

“Of course. It was recommended by Troy.”

That could be a sign of hypnosis. “Are you sure you don’t want to think about it?”

“If I don’t like it, I can share it with Troy. Oh, I forgot to ask. Can you eat regular food?” Mei turned to Troy.

Troy nodded, and she squealed again in excitement. “I have found my savior.”

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Well, now I have someone to share my food if I don’t like it,” she said and disproved my theory of her being hypnotized.

“What if Troy doesn’t want to eat something?” I asked.

“All foods taste the same unless it’s from the vein,” said Troy.

“Woah, how does that feel when you feed on someone?” Mei asked.

“Hey, I don’t think it’s a good idea to talk about it here unless Troy plans on entrancing everyone in the restaurant.”

“It is but His Majesty who can entrance multiple people. I can only do so with one person at a time,” Troy said.

“Well, I don’t think you would have a problem with me,” Mei said and moved a strand of hair around her ear.
