“I don’t know how to say this, but Gabriel is…” My eyes welled up only thinking about it.

“I heard. My condolences, Milady.”

“How did you…Nevermind. I don’t need your condolences. I need your help to return back in time.”

“Do not tell you have the––”

“I do. Here.” I showed her the pendant with the stone.

“Is this hers?” Cassia asked.

“It is. And it’s also my ticket to return to Gabriel. Except, it’s not working. I did everything right. I placed it around my neck. I said the incantation. I––” The pain cut through my voice, and I couldn’t speak anymore.

“I see. Let me check something.” She got up and took a large feather from the drawer.

“Does the feather belong to Zburatorul?”

“You do know your history, Milady.” Cassia smiled.

“I’ve lived through it. What do you plan on doing with it?”

“I’m going to cover the stone with it. If the feather floats, it means the stone still holds its powers.”

“I know it does. I’ve seen Vedoma use it numerous times.”

“Let’s just see it in action.” Cassia placed the feather on top of the pendant and mumbled a spell.

As per usual, nothing happened at first. But then the feather began floating, and not only. It spun like a compass out of control.

“Why is the feather doing this?” I asked.

“There’s something more to the stone than meets the eye. Vedoma must’ve had something to do with it.”

After the feather spined at centrifuge speed for several minutes, it simply disintegrated.

“Yep, there’s no breaking it,” said Cassia as she popped her favorite gum in her mouth.

“What do you mean?”

“Vedoma placed such a strong protective spell. It’s almost unusable. She embedded her livelihood in it to gain more power. Unfortunately, when you took it away from her, she didn’t have time to reverse the spell, thus disappearing from the historical timeline completely. It’s as if she never existed.”

“Her existence is completely wiped?”

Cassia nodded.

“Could her disappearance cause any historical issues?”

“No one knows. It’s the first time it happened. Vedoma placed great trust in the Eye of the Dragon and paid the ultimate price. But this also means it is unusable for you.”

“But I was able to use it in the time continuum,” I said.

“When the stone enters the time continuum it is like a flower in bloom. Its powers flow freely. Once the stone returns to a Realm it locks back up.”

“Does that mean I won’t be able to travel in time?” I began doubting my choice of leaving Athena with my parents. Maybe taking our daughter to meet her father wouldn’t risk his fate-sealing.

“Key word here is ‘almost,’ Milady.” Cassia kept inspecting the stone.

“Then there’s a chance?”
