“Only one.”

“I’ll take it.”

“When do you wish to travel?”

“Now?”

“It is almost nighttime. But maybe you’re right. During the night, magical powers usually flourish. Let’s go.” She said and went out of the office.

Her exit weirdly reminded me of Solomonarul. I dashed after Cassia, but I lost her along the way. In the end, I decided to wait for her at the entrance door. Not ten minutes later, Cassia appeared in a business suit with a full face of makeup.

“Who are you trying to impress? The palace ghosts?”

“You never know when you might meet an old friend,” she said and handed me several pieces of clothing.

“Are we walking to the palace?” I asked.

“Do these heels look like they’re made for walking?” Cassia asked. “We have a car for that. But first, you must change your clothes. You don’t want to create a mutiny with a bare shoulder.”

“I believe I almost created one the first time I traveled,” I said as I switched my modern clothes for a medieval chemise and apron.

“Luck doesn’t usually come in pairs,” said Cassia.

Once we were on the road, it took five minutes to arrive at the palace. The surrounding eerie quietude made me want to tiptoe, and we hadn’t even entered the complex. “How are we going to get inside.”

“How all trespassers do,” Cassia said. “We jump the fence.”

“But the fence is made of bricks.”

“That’s why I’m here. To give you a boost.”

“What have I gotten myself into?”

“Milady, you said you couldn’t wait anymore. This is your chance.” Cassia kneeled, weaved her fingers, and prepared her hands to propel me to the other side.

I placed one foot on her hands and looked at the height of the fence. “Great. Just Gre-a-aaat.” I didn’t have time to realize I already lay on the side of the barriers. After rolling off the cushiony bushes, I whisper-yelled: “I’m all good. Can you find a way in as well?” Before I heard a reply, a thud resounded. I moved around the bush only to witness Cassia lying on the ground next to the bushes.

“What don’t I do for true love.” She groaned in pain.

With my helping hand, Cassia stood, and together, we rushed to the cellar.

Once there, I gave Cassia the pendant and began preparing and fretting about my travel.

“Stand straight. Chest forward. You don’t want your beloved to see you all disheveled,” Cassia said.

“Trust me. The whirlwind I’m about to meet doesn’t take into account aesthetics.”

“Fine. At least, let me put on some color on those chapped lips.” She pulled out a red lipstick and attacked me with her expectations of beauty.

“I think it’s enough.”

“I think so too. Are you ready?”

“More ready than ever before.”

“Okay. Now I cannot touch you as I don’t want to travel with you, so I’ll conjure my magic beforehand, and once you say your spell, I’ll finish it. Remember, we only have one shot. Who knows how deep Vedoma’s spell is? Make sure you say the incantation correctly.”

“That’s exactly what a person with performance anxiety doesn’t need to hear.”
