“And here I thought I was exceptional,” she said.

“Exactly. It’s things like that, your witty comments to my statements, how easy you are to talk to and it makes me want to talk to you. You’re a refreshing change from every other woman I’ve dated.”

“But we aren’t dating, or we’ve only been on one date where you stood next to me for twenty minutes, during which we were surrounded by paparazzi and your family. I spent more time with your family than with you. I’m not sure how that qualifies as a date,”

“You do have a point,” I said with a chuckle. “It doesn’t change the fact that I’m attracted to you and I think you are to me. I want to see where this might go, if you’re willing?”

“What about the article? Won’t that complicate things?”

“I will admit I haven’t brought it up before because of that. I didn’t want to blur the lines. I didn’t want to confuse things for either of us, but I think we’re past that.”

“And why is that?” she asked.

I leaned forward on my desk and put my coffee cup to the side. I placed my hands in front of me as I looked her directly in the eye.

“Because I can’t stop thinking about you. Wondering what it would be like to run my hands through your hair, to look into your eyes right before I kiss you, to know what you taste like. Among other things.”

“Oh, is that all.” She looked flustered by my statement and I could tell she had been thinking the same things.

“Among other things,” I repeated and she let out a nervous laugh.

“Are you going to be okay with me doing a story on you while we try to what, date?” she asked.

“There’s only one way to find out. Are you willing to try? Are you okay with it?”

“It’s a little unethical but I wouldn’t be the first person who wrote an article about a famous person they dated. I might be the first to do it with their blessing though. I will have your blessing, won’t I?”

“What do you mean by blessing?”

“You’re okay with me doing the article, no matter what happens between us. I’m going to write what I find, what I see, even if you don’t like it. I know you had Mac protect you and the company by requesting I sign that waiver. I’m not going to ruin my reputation or hurt my career just to make you feel better or to avoid litigation, no matter how involved we get.”

“I wouldn't expect anything less from you. I hope that you will like what you see and that your article will be favorable to me and my family. All that I ask is if you find any dirt, anything that you think would be harmful to me or my family that you allow me to talk to you about it first. That I get to have my say.”

“That’s what every reporter wants. I want to tell the right story about you and your family, whatever that may be.”

“Good. Then we’re in agreement. I only have one question for you, for now,” I said.

“What is that?” she asked.

“Are you free tomorrow night?”

Chapter 14

Alexandria

“I can’t believe you have a date tonight!” Taylor said to me.

“It’s a little shocking to me too. I never thought it would happen when I first took the assignment.”

“What did your boss say?” she asked.

“I actually didn’t tell her. The last time we talked, she told me to get the story, no matter what. This might not be what she meant but knowing Georgia, she will be all for it.”

“Where are you going? What are you going to wear?”

“I’m not sure where we’re going, so I’m keeping my outfit simple with a pair of jeans, a sweater, and some cute boots.”

“Are you sure that’s wise? He's a billionaire and a playboy. He’s probably used to whisking a woman off to a tropical island for a date, or the most expensive and exclusive restaurant in the city.”
