“When I own a company, I expect my employees to have integrity. From what I’ve gathered about the two of you, you don’t measure up to my standards. Especially when word gets out about what you did to Mia.”

Kristen scoffs. “All this overher?”

“I’m a generous guy, so I’ll give you both half an hour to clear your desks and say your goodbyes before you leave.”

Michael rises to his feet, clenching his fists tightly. “You can’t be fucking for real.”

“I should mention that you won’t be getting a letter of recommendation from me,” I add. “Best of luck in your future endeavors, though.”

“I can’t believe you’d go this far to protect Mia,” he says, throwing his hands up. “I can tell you firsthand. She isn’t worth the trouble. I hope you enjoy the financial loss.”

“Studio 42 is about to become one of the most successful media companies in the world now that I own it,” I say confidently. “If everything goes as planned, the company will triple in revenue by the end of the year. I’ve already informed everyone in the industry about the little rumor you started at my company. Needless to say, most people don’t want to hire problematic employees. I hopeyouenjoy the financial loss.”

Kristen stands up, a defeated expression plastered on her face. I can’t believe Michael cheated on Mia with a woman this conniving. Actually, I’m glad he did. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have met Mia.

“Now that I see both of you together, I have to say. You’re a perfect match.”

Michael’s mouth twitches, showing disgust. I don’t know if it’s because of my words or at the thought of Kristen as his partner. Probably both. “Go to hell, you prick,” he says.

I flash him a big smile. “Later,” I say with a nod. “First, I have to make sure the two of you follow my orders and vacate the building. You have twenty-five minutes. I suggest you get packing before security intervenes.”

Michael rolls his eyes and turns on his heel, leaving my office. Kristen follows behind him.

“Goodbye,” I call out, a wave of relief coursing through me.

I can’t wait until I get to tell Mia about this later. She isn’t going to believe it. I wish she had been here to see the looks on their faces. Admittedly, this was epic as hell.

I take out my phone and pull up Amber’s contact. She answers on the second ring.

“Hey, Amber. I just got through firing Michael and Kristen. You can help me get everything in order, right?”

“Yes, sir,” she says. “I can manage it all smoothly from here. We do have one problem, though.”

I tilt my head to the side. “What’s that?”

“Mia quit.”

My lips part. “What?”

How can that even be? I figured a few days off would be enough to help her clear her head. She loves her job, and she’s been doing so well. Why would she quit so suddenly?

“She dropped off her resignation letter to me this morning,” Amber says. “Should I leave it on your desk?”

“Email me all of the files for the film locations,” I say, starting for the door so I can get out of here as soon as possible. “And get my jet ready for an immediate flight.”

“Yikes, look at you,” I say when Mia answers the door.

She’s wearing baggy flannel pajama bottoms with an oversized shirt, and her hair is tied up in a high ponytail. Honestly, she looks stunning, but it’s still fun to give her a hard time.

She huffs. “Excuse me?” She scans me up and down. “What are you doing here?”

I lean against her doorway. “I heard you quit.”

She turns her head away from me. “As if you care.”

I groan. She could win an Academy Award for her dramatics. “Come on, Mia. You know I care.” I take her hand in mine. “You don’t look so well,” I say, mostly referring to her puffy eyes. From the looks of it, she’s been crying non-stop for days.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” She pulls her hand away and heads toward the kitchen, leaving the door open so I can step inside.
